Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralytic
(Matt. 9:2-8; Mark 2:1-12)
17 Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. 18 Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him. 19 And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus.
20 When He saw their faith, He said to him, "Man, your sins are forgiven you."
21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answered and said to them, "Why are you reasoning in your hearts? 23 Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Rise up and walk'? 24 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"--He said to the man who was paralyzed, "I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house."
25 Immediately he rose up before them, took up what he had been lying on, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. 26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, "We have seen strange things today!"
(Luke 5:17-26).
1) When a person comes to receive healing from Jesus, the first thing that Jesus sees in them is, ‘whether they have faith in Him that He can heal their diseases and solve their problems’.
2) Only when the healing power of the Lord is present in a place, people can really get healed even while teaching the Word of God.
3) When you teach the Word of God, expect the power of the Lord to be present in that place to heal people.
4) Seek after the sick, the lost and the hurting people, with faith in your heart that Jesus will meet their needs. He sees your heart of faith and will be pleased to meet their needs. This is the place where you will be blessed [with your faith which is in itself is a reward from God] to become a blessing to others.
5) Their faith was, ‘Only if we could take this sick man to Jesus’, He will surely heal. Be steadfast in your pursuit to reach Jesus even when all you could see before you is only obstacles, your faith will be rewarded and you will be healed!
6) It is as easy for Jesus to heal a sick person, as it is to forgive their sins.
7) As the only begotten Son of God, Jesus has the absolute right to forgive sins as God Himself forgives (John 5:18).
8) Jesus is always excited when He sees people reaching out to Him with faith in their heart.
9) The ultimate reason for the demonstration of the power of God is to make people believe that Jesus is the Savior of all mankind and is their God (Isaiah 45:15).
10) Every healing that happens by the power of God shows that Jesus is God and has the power to forgive sins.
11) When Jesus sees faith in the heart of any person expectantly reaching out to Him He speaks an active rhema [the word that proceeds out of the mouth of God in the present time] to the situation or sickness and the miracle happens.
