Is Trinity Biblical?

Does the Bible Support Trinity?

Question: Is Trinity Biblical? Does the Bible support Trinity? Why the word Trinity is not in the Bible?

Answer: Greetings in Jesus wonderful name!

The Trinity is a mystery beyond our comprehension (Isa. 40:18; Rom. 11:33–36).

But even though the word 'Trinity' is not in the Bible, it is a word coined by the Church Father Tertullian who lived around 155-200 AD from Latin, to keep the concept of one God, three in Person intact, so that wrong doctrine, heresy and confusion can be kept out of true Christianity.

The doctrine of the Trinity means that there is one God who eternally exists as three distinct Persons — the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Stated differently, God is one in essence and three in person.

Scripture has the ample evidence of this trinity, which was promoted by the Church.

And this teaching gives us a glimpse into the incomprehensible greatness of God which Benjamin Needler preached: "This doctrine should establish us in the truth of the gospel, … For my part, I would not worship that God that I could comprehend … Bless God for the clear discovery of this truth under the gospel!"

The Trinity is the perfect loving community of three Persons who are satisfied perfectly in fellowship with each other. They have eternally (John 17:5, 24) sought to glorify each other (Phil. 2:5–11). And God created humankind to share that same love, so that we can understand Him more and more eternally (John 17:21–26; Acts 17:25).

In other words, to really understand the very concept of Trinity, we must plan on studying verses in each section to prove to ourself and others that the Bible does claim that God is a Trinity. Hallelujah!

The one who was called the prince of preachers, Charles Spurgeon said regarding Trinity, "Learn, then, O believer, to love all the persons of the Divine Trinity alike. But as they are one in creation, so are they one in salvation working together in one God for our salvation, and unto that God be glory everlasting, world without end, Amen. It needs the Trinity to make a Christian, it needs the Trinity to cheer a Christian, it needs the Trinity to complete a Christian, it needs the Trinity to create in a Christian the hope of glory.”

Scriptural evidence supports every element proving the Trinity.

1. There is one God

2. God’s “One-ness” is his One divine essence

3. The three members of the Trinity are Persons

4. All three Persons of the Trinity are God. For example they:

Are called God

Possess God’s attributes

Perform acts of God

5. The New Testament lists all three Persons of the Trinity simultaneously

The Trinity is listed together

All three Persons function together

6. Each Person of the Trinity is distinct

There is a functional order within the Trinity

7. The Trinity is not a contradiction

8. Conclusion: Scripture teaches the Trinity.

Thus again we remember Charles Spurgeon who said, "Trinity in Unity, and Unity in Trinity was not an optional appendage to the gospel, rather a “gospel without belief in the living, and true God… [was] a rope of sand.” When it came to the Trinity, life and death hung in the balance."

If you ask me, what is Trinity to you in the times we live?

I can answer without a second thought, Trinity is the most important thing and the doctrine to believe in the right deity, the uncreated, the one and only God, who created all things and rules the world without end, who the Bible projects as the one and only truth which Jesus spoke and embodied, so that we could hold on to eternal life.

Much Blessings...
