What Does The Nature Of Yeast Have To Do With The Kingdom Of God?

Question: What does the nature of yeast have to do with the Kingdom of God? We knead to do dough, but when yeast is added or hidden in it, supernaturally by God's design it gives taste and increase to our dough to help us make our tasty bread. Does God's Kingdom work like this? That is, we work, then God work's so that we could become a blessing!

Answer: Greetings in the Holy Name of Jesus!

Here we go:

Matt 13:33 - "Another parable He spoke to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened."

Luke 13:20-21 - "20 And again He said, “To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? 21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened.”

What is a leaven?

A leaven is a substance, typically yeast, that is used in dough to make it rise.

In other words, specifically it is a substance, as yeast or baking powder, that causes fermentation and expansion of dough or batter. It might be also, fermented dough reserved for producing fermentation in a new batch of dough.

We all work our dough to make bread, but God is the one who does make it work naturally when we leaven it by hiding a little in the meal, we wait until it is fully leavened.

Can we see it how the fermentation works? No it works invisibly, but it does work when we see the dough or batter rise up to give a wonderful sour taste which indicates it is ready to be cooked in oven or stove or fire to be eaten.

Once fully leavened, we use it to cook tasty bread, soft and nicely burnt with a great aroma that will fully satisfy our taste buds and hunger.

Presuming we used a common recipe for basic white bread that uses 5 ½ cups of flour, 144 cups which three measure of meal is, it is enough to make 26 batches of bread of two loaves each, giving us a total of 52 loaves, each weighing about a pound [i.e. 453.592 grams] and a half [i.e. 453.592+226.796=680.389 grams].

It is very surprising to see that this woman prepare at least a dough roughly equal to the weight of thirty to thirty five kilograms of bread. This is a woman who does not just cook for her family, but more than that for the village, town, city and to the ends of the world as much as will receive it from her.

What have we learnt from the above Parable of the Kingdom of God, when Jesus says it is a woman who prepares the food, in the spiritual realm it is the Church that prepares the spiritual food for soul of people (1 Tim 3:15; 2 Cor 11:2; Eph 5:25-27). When the Church supplies spiritual bread for people, it should not only be for the people within the walls of the Church, but actually beyond it, it is for all the people of the whole world (John 3:16; Mark 16:15).

So the Church not only should make disciples within its walls but of all nations, it should not only prepare regular bread for its own family and relatives who comes (Matt 28:18-20), but also it should persistently ask for the bread of the Word of God for the friends in the world to be saved even though it might be at the last hour of midnight before the coming of the Lord, God will surely rise from his rest to give bread to as many as we need even at midnight time of the last hour or minute of His Secret Coming or even until His Second Coming (Luke 11:5-8).

Praise the Lord!

It is our duty as the Church of Jesus Christ to fulfill His Great Commission of teaching and preaching the word of God within the walls of the Church as well as to the common man in the world who is in need of the bread of life [i.e. Jesus Christ], as the unbeliever some times does not even realize their need until we tell them and open their eyes to the reality of the spiritual eternal life (John 6:35).

Some times if we do not have faith enough, we might even find the people around us to be beyond our ability to supply spiritual bread like the disciple Philip who replied back to Jesus saying, "Two hundred days wages worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little." But surely we must understand that many times God might test us with so many people in need around us, but if we could realize that in faith we are able to supply to everyone because Jesus is able to supernaturally multiply the bread of the Word of God and feed it to all, then we could joyfully obey the Lord and do what Jesus tells us to do and thus become a part of the miracle multiplication that Jesus does in our generation through faith to supply the bread of life not only to the Church within the walls but also to the world around us which is in need (John 6:1-14).

The main work of the Church is to take the leaven or the change and transforming agent of the Word of God and hide it in our heart constantly and pray till we are able to supply bread supernaturally to as many as are in need of it (Heb 4:12; Psa 119:11; Acts 6:2-4). Praise the Lord!

We need not worry, how it will become fermented enough to increase in size and taste to be fit enough for all to eat the bread we bake, because those supernatural things God does make it to work automatically if we surrender our lives and obey the call of God to prepare ourselves by living in holiness through understanding and meditating of the Word of God regularly in our lives in a disciplined way, day in and day out (Heb 12:14). We are the unleavened dough in our spiritual man which works in sincerity and truth within us (1 Cor 5:7-8), but we need a little leaven of the transforming word of God to be hid within our soul regularly, which then mixes with the guidance of the spiritual light from within our spirit-man through the meditation of the Word of God, which then build back our spirit man further up and renew our soul mind, which in turn then starts to affect our action towards others in a positive way through our good works done by faith (Rom 12:23).

Our soul self life in itself is of no use to any one, until the yeast quality of the Kingdom of God in our spirit-man that is very small when we were saved (Luke 17:21), slowly permeates and multiplies its effect upon the soul as it gets in to contact with it (1 Cor 6:17). Then our body begins to work in the way of our transformed soul that comes under the influence of our spirit-man (Gal 5:9). Our whole life takes on the path of the purpose and plans of God when we continue to let the Kingdom within us control us by our intimacy and communion with God through our spirit-man (Psa 33:11; Pro 19:21; Isa 14:24, 27; 46:10; Php 1:6; 2:12). Yeast of the Kingdom of God and the character of its influence always works its way through the dough of the saved life of a believer who is likened to a unleavened bread, though the complete transformation effect of the Kingdom cannot be seen immediately, yet it will spread and permeate his life over a period of time completely for the Glory of God even as He works in them for His own pleasure (Matt 13:31; 1 Cor 5:7; Php 2:13).

In other words, if we do what we ought to do with what God has given to us in our hands [i.e. Written Word of God], then God will automatically do what He has promised to do [i.e. Save our own lives from sin and also other people around us with what we preach and build them up with what we teach (1 Cor 1:21; Mark 16:20; 1 Tim 4:12-16)], that is, to bless the bread of life that we prepare through the Word of God to make it become a blessing to many many in the world around us. Hallelujah!

Much Blessings....
