What Is The Meaning Of The Phrase "We Should Take Up Our Cross"?
A: It is not in John 9:23 but in Luke 9:23 in which Jesus said, "...“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me."" To live in our own self-will means to do things in our own way and strength. God doesn't want us to live like that. Instead he wants us to do His will by His strength and live for His Glory, thus to take up our cross is to choose to walk in the will of God which he has personally preplanned and customized just for us.
God's ways might seem temporarily like a carrying a cross, but if we don't mind the temporary discomfort and keep walking in the will of God, soon we will be able to realize how blessed we are more than all to follow our God and to fulfill His destiny which He has prepared for us already (Eph 2:10). It is foolishness that will make a person to lose his eternal reward in exchange for a temporal one. God's has never promised a comfortable path to live life abundantly, but he has promised a safe one with a reward that is out of this world (Luke 9:24-26).
Much Blessings......
