Question: I suppose a big thing that people hinge on is who the "elect" is in Matthew 24:29-31. Are the elects the Jews or Christians or the Tribulation saints? What is your thoughts on it? And which scriptures do you use to come to this conclusion?
Answer: Greetings in Jesus wonderful and mighty name!
Here it goes, "29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 "And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." (Matt 24:29, 30-31).
First of all, only when the "Immediately after the tribulation of those days" we see that "the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven".
What do we learn from this? The tribulation of those days is the unprecedented Great Tribulation, that Jesus spoke about, which he foretold to come upon the whole world and that which He promised the Church to keep from it (Rev 3:10), and that which He told the Church to pray so that their resurrection will be in the summer of the Secret Rapture, and not in the winter category of the Martyred Tribulation saints who will get physically resurrected in the First Resurrection winter which happens after all the Great Tribulation gets over and done (Matt 24:20-21; Rev 20:4-6; Rev 7:9-17), or those Tribulation saints who will be alive at the Second Coming of Jesus and the Church, who have gone through the entire Great Tribulation and have been persecuted to have withstood by faith to enter in to the Millennial Sabbath alive in their physical body to live for a thousand years time, this group which will be resurrected at the White Throne Judgment as their names will be written in the Book of Life (Matt 25:31-32, 33-34, 45-46; Rev 20:11-15). Those who are part of the first resurrection will not face second death or white throne judgment, but will be resurrected separately with a glorious body immediately after the thousand years are over, and therefore will enter the new heaven and new earth even before those who have entered the Millennial rule of Christ alive for the Glory of God (Rev 20:6).
The Rapture of the Church is spoken by Jesus as a figure of speech when He said in the following verses about it, "27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together." (Matt 24:27-28), which He later explained in details saying, "36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah [i.e. The Church] entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came [i.e. The Great Tribulation] and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left." (Matt 24:36-41).
The same phrase "the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west" (Matt 24:27) can be compared to the other similar figure of speech "in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye" (1 Cor 15:52) and we can derive an very important meaning from it comparing one with the other. It means 'in a fraction of a second' or 'in a moment of time', when no one expects, both the Secret Rapture like a lightning strike will happen before the Great Tribulation, and also the First Resurrection will happen at the end of the time of the "days of the sounding" of the Last Trumpet (Rev 10:7; 11:15-19; 15:1, 5; 16:18, 19; Zec 14:3, 4, 5; Rev 19:11-13, 7-8, 14-16), in other words, in the twinkling of an eye after the Tribulation of those times the first resurrection will happen at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ (Rev 16:14, 15, 16; 19:17, 18, 19-21; 20:4-6).
The same Scripture regarding the Rapture resurrection of the end time which Matthew speaks about is also spoken by Luke, here it is, "31 “In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. 32 Remember Lot’s wife. 33 Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34 I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. 35 Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. 36 Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.” 37 And they answered and said to Him, “Where, Lord?” So He said to them, “Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.” " (Luke 17:31-37), here in the Gospel of Luke he explains that the figure of speech which is spoken as eagles are none other than believers in their glorious bodies after the Rapture Resurrection in which they will all gather together to meet Jesus in the air (1 Thess 4:14-18), and that which Isaiah the prophet also saw and spoke about it prophetically saying, "they shall rise up with wings like eagles" to meet Jesus in the air (Isa 40:31). Hallelujah!
The same Scripture of Matt 24:31 has also been explained by Mark in Mark 13:24-27 to mean the Second coming of Jesus in "power and glory" in which He describes the elect as those who have already died from one end of earth to the other end of heaven, which means everywhere for their faith as martyrs, they will be gathered together as His elect in resurrection from the "four winds", and surely they were not just the Israelites because this resurrection happen everywhere in all nations. Also Matthew uses the same name "elect", and have conveyed to them as those Tribulation saints who pray during the Tribulation, to them the intensity of The Great Tribulation will be reduced by the Grace of God and also will be shortened through victorious Martyrdom, as well as the length of time of Great Tribulation will be reduced for the those Tribulation saints left alive through special angelic protection given to them from heaven, so that they will be able to enter in to Millennial Kingdom of Christ alive or else no flesh who has faith will remain alive on earth. Therefore with "Great Wrath" (Rev 12:12,16, 17) through Antichrist, Satan will try to destroy nearly all the believers through the 666 mark of the beast, without which no one will be able to buy or sell which will affect the true people of faith only in all the world (Rev 13:11-18), in scores and scores of multiple millions and even a Billion if allowed by God will die at that time as Martyrs, so that even Hitler comparatively will look like just a choir boy in comparison to it (Matt 24:22; Luke 18:8).
Finally who are the elect of Matthew Chapter 24, here is what Matthew reveals, "21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. ... 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." (Matt 24:21-22, 30-31).
So who are the elects? They are the saints with faith who without doubt are present during the Great Tribulation on earth. Because many will be martyred for their faith during the Great Tribulation (Rev 7:9-17; 13:8, 9-10), during the time of Jesus Second Coming, these will be resurrected along with all times martyrs who has died for their faith, together they will rise up in their physical body and will live as priest to reign with Jesus and the Church from the earthly Jerusalem for a thousand years time (Matt 23:34-36, 37-39; Rev 20:4-6)! Hallelujah!
GLORY TO GOD!
Much Blessings.....
