Can a believer lose His salvation -Answer from Jack Kelley?

Dear Brother Jack,

Greetings in the sweet name of Jesus! I have been blessed by your gracethrufaith.com immensly. I read an article about '
More On Gay People In The Rapture'. In this article you said that ' John 15 teach us that a believer out of fellowship will live a defeated life, of no more value than pruned branches.' But you have not read the verse fully to the end which says, "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them [i.e. angels are gatherers(Matt 13:40)]and throw them into the fire[ hell fire (Matt 13:41-42)], and they are burned [i.e. forever]." This shows that a withered leaf will be burnt in fire at the end.

The other view that I disagree is 'When you tell that Jesus has promised not to lose none of us, it should be balanced with the view that he said this only to those who will hear His voice and follow Him (John 6:38-40; 10:27-30). So believing is hearing Jesus and following [i.e. obeying His command] Him, only such people are know by Jesus.

The other thing that I want to know is, 'Whether a believer should call himself a sinner or a saint or both [i.e. a saint who sins]?'

You say that a believer cannot lose his salvation even though he sins intetionally, but if it is right why did Jesus say to the believers in Rev 3:5, "He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels." In other words Jesus was saying to the believers, 'If you do not repent and overcome, I will blot out your name from the Book of life [i.e. which is the only proof of our salvation (Luke 10:20)]'. Is this not losing one's salvation because of an unrepentant heart?

If one cannot lose salvation why did the writer of the Book of Hebrews say, "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame." (Heb 6:4-6). The people who are described in this verse are believers and not unbelievers.

I believe that a believer cannot lose his salvation as long as he follows Jesus and hear's his voice to be obedient to Him. Such believers are those who will live their life with a repentant attitude which is very important for not trampling the Son of God underfoot, and counting the blood of the covenant a common thing to insult the Spirit of Grace (Heb 10:29).

What is your thought about these questions? May the Lord bless you and use you much more to minister to the saints in our generation!

God bless you,

Abraham Israel

Hi ...

You are reading way too much into these passages for my comfort level. For example, when Jesus said, /"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."/ (*John 15:5*) He couldn't have been talking about our salvation because salvation is not a fruit bearing event. Fruit has an effect on others where salvation is purely personal. In other words, fruit is not something that happens to the branch, it's something that happens through the branch. And the branch does not make fruit grow by its own effort. It's the vine that does the work.

John 6:40 is a summary statement of the passage and says, "For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." The only condition mentioned there is belief. Understand this. The Lord didn't make incomplete or half true statements that have to be balanced with other things He said to find out what He really meant. Everything He said can stand on its own.

And *Rev. 3:5* doesn't say that our names can be blotted out of the book of life. It says just the opposite. Take verses 4 and 5 together. He's basically telling the unsaved in Sardis that if they put their trust in Him like some of their friends have, He will never change His mind about them. *Rev. 3:5* is one more promise, right from the Lord's mouth, that once our names are in the book they can never be erased.

Lord bless,
Jack
