Attitude To Have Concerning The 9 Gifts Of The Holy Spirit

How The Personal Attitude Of Every Believer Should Be Towards The Gifts Of The Spirit?

Q: What should be the personal attitude of every believer concerning the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit?

A: There was a lot of confusion that was happening in the gifted Church of Corinth when Paul the apostle left this Church for the apostolic work that God has called him to do in other cities after initially establishing it
(Acts 18:1, 9-11). They all had zeal for using the gifts of the Holy Spirit but without knowledge. This created a great division inside the Church. The people of the Church of Corinth broke the divine order that God has set inside the Church, so apostle Paul explained about the right way to use gifts and made them understand the misuse in order to help them maintain the divine order in a godly way (1 Cor 14:40). So we can learn from this letter the attitude a believer must have towards the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit,

1) We must understand that these nine gifts of the Holy Spirit are not resident gifts as the gifts of Jesus and the gift of the Father for all believers that comes according to the calling of God in each one's life
(Rom 12:3-8; Eph 4:7-8, 11). A believer must not think that some gifts of the Holy Spirit belongs to certain people only, so each believer in the Church can earnestly desire to be used by the Holy Spirit. Paul specifically exhorts the believers to desire for gift of prophecy so that the whole Church might be edified (1 Cor 14:1, 4-5).

2) The manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all. This means any time the Holy Spirit decides to use us with any of the nine gift, he will use it for all to be benefited with His supernatural ministry
(1 Cor 12:7).

3) We can desire all the gift of the Holy Spirit and as a result of seeing our honest desire to be used for God's glory, the Holy Spirit will decide which gift to manifest at a particular time according to the need of the Church and will distribute it to a particular believer at a particular time and will work through the body of a believer and will reach others who are in need
(1 Cor 12:11).

4) Just because a believer was used by the Holy Spirit in a particular way does not mean that the Holy Spirit will use the same person all the time with that particular gift. But when a person has been trained by the Holy Spirit to use a particular gift knowledgeably, it will be easy for Him to use that particular person to dispense a particular gift in a effective way.

5) Each believer must become knowledgeable about all the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit and be experientially trained by a apostolic elder or a apostle within the Church, so that the whole Church can be used by the Holy Spirit with His powerful gifts to dispense and bring people effectively in to the kingdom of God
(1 Cor 14:24-25).

6) God will always first release these gifts through the fivefold ministers in to the Church initially
(Eph 4:11), so that a divine order of God can be established in the Church through their godly leadership. So the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit can be easily seen usually in the fivefold ministers of God (1 Cor 12:28-31). This does not mean that only these ministers of God can only operate with those gifts. It is first released to these appointed people in the Church so that it can reach all the believers through them finally. Apostle Peter told the Church' spiritually younger ones to humble themselves under the mighty fivefold hand of God so that God may exalt them through manifesting many gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 5:5-6).

7) Each gifts should be used with utmost respect for the Holy Spirit and love towards people. Love should be the driving force for the believer to desire for more and more gifts of the Holy Spirit
(1 Cor 13:1-2). Only love can bring eternal reward and satisfaction for doing God's work. It is a childish way to use the gifts and not use it with the fuel of love. Only children will receive gifts and use them without even bothering to love the person who has given it. And also children will use the gift and be selfish enough to use it for themselves mostly. These are childish behavior that should be avoided for the Holy Spirit to use a believer effectively (1 Cor 13:9-11).

8) Once God is using a person under the unction of the Holy Spirit, all other person should wait until he stops moving in the Spirit. Then one can move with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. All can practice the gift of the Holy Spirit one by one as the Holy Spirit leads. The supernatural display should be judged by the Church and only then should be accepted as genuine by believers
(1 Cor 14:29-33). God does not create confusion because He is the author of peace in all the Churches of the saints, so if confusion comes it will be because of the excess of the control-less prophets who can bring confusion. When these prophets say God did certain things and also He has told them to do certain things outside of their control, it is not the Holy Spirit. It is their control-less flesh that makes them act like that. If they also say things apart from the Word of God and also do things which are not decent proper behavior that all accept as norm in any culture, it means they are not acting under the unction of the Holy Spirit and are not walking in the integrity of God in the divine order. The believers should immediately recognize it and should distance themselves from these people. The same also applies to all believers who are all used by the Holy Spirit with varieties of gifts.

If we stick on these basic things regarding the use of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit, we will be greatly used in the kingdom of God by the Holy Spirit. The gifts are given to us, but the right attitude to use the gifts only comes when we painstakingly make sure to train ourselves in these things. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are not arbitrary to be used for our own selves, it is given for the profit of the Church where God will be glorified.
