Question: What does mustard seed have to do with the Kingdom Of Heaven? Does the parable of the mustard seed show the powerful working of the word in the hearts of his chosen? Mustard seed being the smallest of all seed like a herb, does it have the power to become a tree and shoot out branches for birds of the air to nest in its branches? What is the meaning of the Parable of the Mustard Seed?
Answer: Greetings in Jesus the Christ, name above all names!
Mark 4:30-32 - "30 Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? 31 It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32 but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.”"
Luke 13:18-19 - "18 Then He said, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? 19 It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.”"
All the parables of Jesus Christ are simple stories of the earth used by him to describe and make people understand the heavenly truth and realities of the unseen world of God in Heaven.
We know that there are many human kingdoms on earth under the influence of Satan who is its prince that rules it (Eph 2:2; Luke 4:5-7; Matt 4:8-9), but in heaven there is only one Kingdom, that is, Kingdom of Heaven which is also called as the Kingdom of God from which God rules the entire Universe (Matt 6:9-10, 13).
God speaks in parables to first reveal to the true seeker and disciple of Jesus who sacrificially follow him the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but to the curious unsaved seekers who come just to receive their need, He sends them away with a good story that they will not understand except have a good laugh or a time of intellectual stimulation through hearing it (Matt 13:10-15).
We know that Jesus in another place answered to the question posed by the disciples regarding how Jesus could drive out demons so easily while they themselves find it hard and impossible to dislodge the possessed spirit out of the oppressed child who was tormented by it (Matt 17:14-19)? Jesus answered back to them saying, that if they have faith as a mustard seed through self-denial that comes through fasting and prayer (Matt 17:21), after holding that mustard seed size of Kingdom Faith in their heart, if they say or command to the mountain of spiritual problem which seems impossible to move out, then it will move and nothing will be impossible for them (Matt 17:20). So Jesus emphasized a quality of faith that comes to people when they deny the flesh, take up the cross of doing God's will and follow Jesus for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven as a disciple and a student of the Word of God (Luke 9:23; Matt 16:24).
So in reality, the power and presence of the Kingdom of God even though is so small initially like the smallest size of a mustard seed when a person gets saved (1 Peter 2:2), but when the same person who is saved becomes a practicing disciple, student of the Word and a follower of Jesus by self-denial through fasting and prayer, the Kingdom of God starts to grow within him in power and presence so that it grows exponentially to become a tree to put forth branches where angels of His presence will be at disposal of their's with a word of their mouth to be dispatched to do impossible thing to be made possible by heaven's power and presence (Matt 18:10). This is true open heaven that operates for the Glory of God. Just like as upon Jesus on whom the angels of heaven were nesting under his shade and were at the word of his disposal as the presence and power of the throne of God rested upon Him through self-denial and prayer (John 1:51; 19:11; Matt 26:53).
Herbs always brings small seed and small seeds get multiplied mostly in herbs that always need a support to bear their fruit or bring their seed in to fruition. Normal humans always need a support of someone in this world to climb on to the ladder of success. But then those who are saved through the mustard seed of the Word of God and have a small size of the Kingdom of God within their new nature of God in their spirit (Jam 1:21; 1 Pet 1:23), have a possibility to become a big tree where birds of the air [(i.e.) good angels of God (Matt 13:4, 19, 24, 27-28, 31-32, 37, 39, 41)] become nested in them because of the same throne room presence and the power of God in heaven that becomes condensed and settled in their soul because of their constant communion to the throne room of heaven and their surrendered life to God to fulfill His will on earth as it is in heaven. Hallelujah!
So we know that all of the above parable of the mustard seed reveals how the small size of the throne room power and presence of God and his heavenly nature residing in a saved human when nurtured as a disciple of Jesus becomes a big mustard tree size with different strong branches, that they themselves begin to have the possibility for the heavenly angels of heaven to reside and operate upon that person as from a small sub-branch command center of heaven on earth to operate by itself [(i.e.) the person in Christ Jesus becomes like a ladder connected to heaven from within that office branch on earth], they start to operate, just like the heavenly head office that operates by itself to give command to the angels from the huge universal power and presence of God which is in the throne room of heaven. Praise the Lord! Hallelujah!
If you want to live a power filled life in God's Presence for Jesus, then die to self in your belief and live for God's righteousness in your action (Rom 6:5-23).
Never underestimate the power and presence of dying to self and producing so much of seeds that it will become a blessing to the world, this is the same path that our Master Jesus trod and have called us to follow him for the Glory of God (John 12:20-26; Matt 10:25; Luke 6:4). When you become such a blessing to the world around, the honor that God is going to give you is truly out of this world and will stay with you for eternity ahead (Heb 5:1, 4; 1 Sam 2:30; 1 Pet 2:9). You will be a great ruler in the house of God in your afterlife for ever, just like Jesus now rules over the entire Universe (Rev 21:24, 26; 3:21)! GLORY! GLORY TO GOD!
Much Blessings.....
