Question: Over who are we going to reign as kings and priests?
Surely not over people?
As you are either in the kingdom of GOD or you have rejected the salvation of Jesus.
GOD is GOD, and HE reigns over us.
So, over who are you going to be king over?
As that then implies that you as a king will have to have a kingdom to reign over.
Answer: Greetings in Jesus wonderful name!
Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Who is be going to rule over nations during the Millennial Kingdom on this old earth in power, authority and glory, and also in the new earth but only through living in greater or lesser glory, over people or nature, I would tell it is both. That is the same promise he has given to the Church, in Rev 2:26-27 (old Earth) and Rev 3:21; Eph 1:20-21; 21:24, 26; 22:3, 4, 5 (new earth).
What does it mean when Jesus says, I will confess before the Father your name? This means, there will be ruler ship hierarchy in the new earth and new heaven, where people who have worked greatly for the Lord Jesus, will be placed by the Father in hierarchy to rule over the new heaven and new earth in greater or lesser glory (Rev 3:5; Matt 20:21, 22-23; 10:32-33; John 21:17; 1 Pet 5:4). Hallelujah!
Under Jesus, the Lord will give kingly and priestly domains for the children of God and His Sons to rule in glory according to His will and wishes and pleasure, both in the new earth and as well as in the old (John 1:12; Rom 8:13-17; Php 2:13; Rev 4:11).
God is not unjust to forget each of our service we have done for Him and still do for His Glory (Heb 6:10). Each of the work we do for the Lord in His name, places us in positions of power, glory and honor in eternity, which will surely be rewarded to us when Jesus comes back again to take the Church to be with him forever and ever in His new heaven and new earth (Rev 22:12). Whatever Jesus says, you do through His Word and the Spirit, word or deed, we should do in the name of the Lord Jesus (Col 3:17). Even now Jesus is our King, and where the word of the King is, there is power to fulfill what he says to us (Eccl 8:4).
We are saved to serve the Lord as Sons and be rewarded now with bonus and payday in eternity for the Glory of God (Eph 2:8-10; Rev 21:7).
The question for us is, whom are we going to rule over (Deut 15:6; 17:15, 20; Lev 25:39, 46)? To this we know that all creation groans for the sons of God to be revealed to set them free in the liberty of the children of God (Rom 8:19-22), that means in the Millennial Kingdom of Jesus on earth, we will restore the old earth to make it become like in pre-fall state in its environment and harsh implementation of law against sin (Php 3:21; Acts 3:21; Isa 66:22-24; 65:17). But the recreation in the new heaven and new earth will be totally made by the hands of the Lord, and enjoyed by the rulership of redeemed humans over it (2 Cor 5:17; Gal 6:15; John 14:3; Heb 12:25-29; Heb 11:10, 13, 16).
What about the animals in the new earth? God will retain what is needed and recreate it, and He will leave whatever will not be beneficial for the new redeemed humans of His new creation in the new earth! As there is no sin in the new earth, why need a king domain to rule in the eternity? There will be no king domain except God's domain in the new earth for eternity (1 Cor 15:23-28), as Jesus himself will be subjected to God's will in his role to live with the redeemed saints forever after (Rev 21:1-8). When Jesus puts an end to "all rule and authority and power" (1 Cor 15:24), then there is no need to have anything but servants who are actually sons of God (Matt 20:26-28), to serve Him in the new heaven and new earth after the Millennial rule, because there is no more any iota of sin or rebellion or death over there! GLORY!
When God the Son subjects himself to God the Father at the end of the Millennial rule of the earth and the destruction of the Old Heaven and Old Earth (2 Peter 3:10-13; 1 Cor 15:28), then His incarnation role and order as a King of Kings of the old earth will end, and that as God [i.e. God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit as in the beginning (John 17:5)] may again be all in all as He has already absorbed all humans who are chosen to be in Him and none outside of Him for eternity ahead (1 Cor 15:28; Rev 21:3, 7; 22:3-4, 5; John 14:23; 17:23, 26). In other words, as God is the Great King over all things (Psa 48:1-2; 95:3-7), his sons will not be just his servants (John 15:15; 16:15; 8:35), but will live a king sized life for eternity to reign ahead as sons of God in Christ Jesus with God's character working within them for His Glory (Gal 3:26; John 8:35-36; Rev 22:5)! The bottomline is, over the old present earth we as the Church will rule for a Millenium with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, at the same time as we will be settled in the New Heaven and New Earth, we will also rule over the New Earth for eternity ahead! Hallelujah! Glory to God!
