Do We Ask God For A New Heart Or Thank Him For It?
A: God foretold through Old Testament prophet Ezekiel, "26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them." (Ezek 36:26-27).
Praise God! He has now given us a new heart, exactly as He has promised through the Prophets of Old Testament. Praise the Lord! Now in teh New Testament God says, "17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation." (2 Cor 5:17-18). This clearly shows that we now have the New Heart and a New United Perfect steadfast spirit given to us when we have received Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and our stony soulish-heart is removed at that time and is made a heart of flesh [i.e. soft with the Holy Spirit's influence which overcomes progressively the hardness of sin influence over our soul] (Psa 51:10; Ezek 11:19; 18:31). Now as we co-operate with the Holy Spirit, He continuously helps us walk in the will and statutes of God (Heb 10:15-18). Praise the Lord for a new hearted spirit-man given to us through Jesus Christ and for the Holy Spirit who puts the law of God in to us continuously and makes us walk in the perfect will of God.
Many good believer's in the New Covenant, many out of ignorance, some out of stupidity based on unbelief and still others depending on their feelings of unworthiness are praying for a new heart to be given to them. Though it may seem to be a veyr spiritual thing to do, it is not Scripturally correct within the New Covenant standards.
God does not reward unbelief, but he rewards those who diligently believe and trust the word of God as true (Heb 11:6). If we are truly born again by having accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we already have a new heart. We should never ask God to give what we already have inside us. If we keep asking God for a new heart, we are living in unbelief. Most of those who ask for a new heart again and again are those who feel guilty about their sins commited and also those who feel powerless to overcome sinful habits personally. When we feel defeated in our Christian life, all we need to do is to feed the new spirit heart with the word of God and prayer so that it will become stronger to overcome all the works of the sin nature which acts through our old soulish heart. True born again people do not need a new heart but a cleansing from sin. This happens when we confess our daily sins to the Lord as soon as possible, he will faithfully in a just way of Christ's Atoning Blood, cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:7, 9).
Renewal of our mind is a transformation faith and not salvation faith (Rom 12:2). We can be renewed because we are already SAVED. We are continuously transformed in to the image of Jesus through co-operating with the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:29). We are three part beings. We are a spirit being, with a rational soul, living in a dust body (1 Thess 5:23-24). Renewal happens in our SOUL-HEART which is influenced by sin nature and PHYSICAL BODY which get deteriorated due to sin-nature living with in us (2 Cor 4:16; Rom 8:11; 7:17). Our SPIRIT-HEART is already perfect and is in the image of God (Eph 4:23-24). When we feed our inner man through prayer and the word of God, the might of the Holy Spirit will flow through our spirit in to our soul and then our body, and will renew us again and again. So we as a believer should not pray for a new heart, but thank God and praise Him continuously for a new heart that God has already given to us through JESUS CHRIST. Praise the Lord!
