Was Jesus Born Again? Was Jesus Spiritually In The Grave For Three Days Cut From The Father's Presence And Fellowship? Will We Be Like Jesus In Our Glorious Body?
Question : Was Jesus on the Third Day was BORN AGAIN? I believe He is. How do we know this? Read Hebrews 1:5 very carefully. It says "Today I have become your Father". Since we know Jesus is co-eternal with the Father, this verse implies a break in that. This break was the three days He was in the grave. He was born again on the Third day. Will Jesus also be the same species as we are in the new glorious body?
On what day He was begotten because Scripture speaks about a certain day and calls it "Today"?
Was Jesus on the grave for three days and was cut from relationship with the Father God during that time? Did Jesus spiritually die on the Cross? Did He become as dead as we were before we were saved, which means completely separated from Father God, and was it the reason Jesus cried out "My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?" In what way did Jesus had to taste death for us so that we could taste resurrection? Does that mean, we can be just as much sons of God now, as Jesus is.
Answer : Jesus doesn't need to be born again as he was sinless from birth to death (Matt 3:14-15; 2 Cor 5:21). But for us he took our sin as a substitute and thus have to pay to God with his sinless life which the Father accepted as Jesus gave it willingly for us (John 10:17-18). Heb 1:5 says, "...I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a Son", which are the words taken from Psalm 2:7 and 2 Samuel 7:14 and the sense is, not that he should be his son by adoption as he was already the eternal son by essence and one with God the Father and the Spirit (Prov 30:4; Heb 1:8; John 6:63-64); or that he would be instead of a father to him; or that he should be as dear to him as a son is to a father; but that he was really and properly so; and he would make it manifest, and own him as such, as he did at Jordan's river, upon the Mount, and at his resurrection and ascension; though the words are spoken of Solomon, as a type of Christ, they properly belong to the anti-type, who is greater than Solomon because Jesus was God who became fully human (Matt 12:42; Luke 11:31; Php 2:5-8).
Then again we see in Heb 1:5 Father God saying to Jesus, “You are My Son, today I have begotten You.” This is stressing the unique position which the Son has in essence equal with the Father in status and position by continuity of existence and not by quality of life put in to existence. He is exalted higher than the angels, because He is in the position of being the unique Son of God in the eternity past. He is not just of a higher quality than the other angels; He is of a different class altogether. He is not grouped in with the angels and created beings. He is a Son, unique and to Himself, and thus cannot be compared with any other of his creation by continuity of existence. When Scripture speaks about God the Father saying, “Today I have begotten You” (Heb 1:5), that phrase 'Today' refers to resurrection. How? In Romans 1:4 Paul the apostle says, "...He is declared to be what? The Son of God. How? By the resurrection." So we know that apostle Paul connected sonship of Jesus with his resurrection and not His birth or his death or even the day of his Baptism given by John the Baptist to wrongly assume and say at that time he was begotten. In Col 1:18 we again see apostle Paul saying the risen Jesus, as "the firstborn from the dead.” Thus it proves the risen Jesus is Son, He is firstborn from the dead, and it is connected with His resurrection. Here we see in the above Scriptures the three themes "begotten", "born" and "sonship" merging together only in the resurrection theme of Jesus, proving without doubt that Jesus could only possibly achieve what He did for us humans by His Divine uniqueness of being the Son or else any tom, dick and harry of his angel creation could have easily become his substitute as man's Savior or Redeemer. Also finally in Acts 13:32-33, Paul is speaking to an audience in Antioch (Asia Minor), he clearly told that the Psalm “You are My Son, today I have begotten You” was fulfilled in the resurrection of Christ. In other words, at every moment of Christ’s earthly existence, the incarnate Messiah is the Son beloved as in the eternity past and He was already accepted, so the day he was begotten is the day of his vindication and victory over death which limited all humans existence and brought it to an end which challenged the very Son of God who was eternally existent and was proved again that it could not keep him in the grave because on that day God chose to let the eternal Son of God again take His Glory back which He had left in heaven to come as a human on earth (1 Cor 15:54-55, 56-57; John 17:5; Rev 1:8).
As we discussed earlier, that second phrase comes from 2 Samuel 7:14, “I will be a father to him and he shall be a son to me,” (Heb 1:5) was not fulfilled in Solomon who was just a type, but was fulfilled in Jesus who was the anti type. The author of Hebrews is indicating that the ancient promises that God would eternally set the seed of David on the throne of Israel which was indicated in 2 Sam 7, Psa 89 and other places, and also by all other prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Micah, etc...is fulfilled in Jesus Christ (Luke 1:32-33, 69-70, 78; Rev 22:16). Hence “I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me” is actually the glorious expression of the relationship of God to the descendant of David who sits on the throne, Solomon tried to fulfill it but failed because it was Jesus which God looked in the future and spoke it about Him coming one day to sit on David's throne and fulfill this prophecy, and it cannot be taken out of context to mean that Jesus was begotten by the Father in a physical or a relationship level or that he was brought in to existence by the father God.
The Bible clearly says that the only time Jesus was forsaken was a mere moment when for three hours the whole earth was darkened and at that time Father God made Jesus to be sin for us that He couldn't even look on to His own only begotten Son because of us (Isa 53:12; Luk 23:34; Hab 1:13), and this is the time Jesus cried out "My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?" (Matt 27:45-46) which the Prophet Isaiah calls as "a mere moment" in relation to eternity in which Jesus' relationship with his Father God was cut and broken but at the end of this three hours was again accepted with favor for eternal mercies by the Father (Isa 54:7-8). How do we know that this wrath of God did not extend after 3 hours of darkness? Because by the end of it, Jesus did not go to hell as some heresies say, but rather He gave His spirit in to the hands of the Father and He received Him favorably with eternal mercies. What more evidence we have? At the end of the darkness of 3 hours, the Father God accepted and acknowledged the perfect sinless sacrifice of Jesus by symbolically tearing apart the veil from top to bottom in the earthly sanctuary to symbolically say that heaven is opened for Jesus to come on behalf of us forever, therefore Jesus went in to heaven's holy of holies to offer his blood on it and atone for our sins once and forever (Matt 27:50-51; Luke 23:44-45, 46; Heb 9:11-12, 24, 26; 10:11-12, 13-14).
Once Jesus went in to heaven, from there he went in to Sheol or Hades to preach the Gospel where righteous souls of men who died from the beginning of time to the time of Noah's flood in which many died through flood with the unrighteous and were kept in the prison on the righteous people' s side of what was called by Luke as Abraham's bosom (1 Peter 3:18-21, 22; 4:6; Luke 16:22-23), along with all the righteous people of the Old Testament times from Abraham's time to the time before Jesus came to this earth and also the people until John the Baptist time were kept (Luke 16:16, 27-30, 31), and also in the other side of Hades unrighteous men were kept in torment of soul (Luke 16:24-25, 26). Once Jesus preached the gospel to the righteous people in Hades, he emptied it and took them all along with him in their spirit for them to be resurrected back (Eph 4:8-9, 10), on the third day once He resurrected, they too joined with him and were resurrected with Jesus on that day and were even seen by many during that time (Matt 27:52-53; 1 Cor 15:20; Isa 26:19, 20, 21). But the unrighteous section of Hades where soul were kept in torment is there until now in the same state and will continue to be in that state until the time of White Throne Judgment in which all human will be judged by Jesus Christ our Lord by their works which will not justify them, and therefore will be thrown in to the eternal lake of fire, during which time death and Hades the place of torment of soul will be completely cast in to it and stay there for eternity ahead (Rev 20:11-13, 14-15; Matt 10:28; Luke 12:27; 20:47).
From the above we know for sure that Jesus was not on the grave for three days in the spirit and hence was not cut in relationship during that time but rather was in heaven victoriously celebrating His victory achieved on earth. Nor is there any indication that He did become as dead as we were before we were saved except for the forsaken time of 3 hours darkness which was more than enough a sinless sacrifice of the eternal Son could achieve to redeem the souls of humanity. Even during that forsaken time, He did not cease to be God the eternal Son by virtue and essence within. This is the only prescribed way of the Father God in which Jesus was expected to face and taste death for us so that we could through Him taste the resurrection life from Him (John 11:25-26; Heb 2:9, 11, 14). Therefore in Christ we are begotten to be sons of God who are adopted in to God's family forever as his children (John 1:12), and that doesn't in any way makes us come anywhere near to the status of God the Son who has been eternal in essence of continuity and one with God in his Divine attributes and 2nd person of the Trinity. We are created sons of God, Jesus is the Creator Son of God. Jesus the eternal Son of God stepped down in to earth from heaven by leaving his glory to become a man (John 8:23; 6:41-42, 50-51), so that we the sons of men born of the nature of Adam our forefather could become the sons of God born again with the nature of God (1 Peter 1:3-4, 23, 25). Now because we have seen Jesus (John 14:9), we could by suffering in the will of God become like our Master Jesus in our character with the resurrection power and glory (Matt 10:25; Luke 6:40; John 14:12; Php 3:9, 10-11, 12).
Finally, God the Father by sowing in to earth His only begotten Son (John 12:24-25, 26-27), He reaped many Sons OF THE SAME TYPE as Jesus," at least as it was supposed to be if we cooperate and become like Jesus more and more each day (1 John 3:2-3). So once we are born again we become a new creation (John 3:3; 2 Cor 5:17), which means the same type of eternal species like Jesus. In other words, we who were marred by sin in our Old Adamic creation has been made new in the complete image of God by the last Adam Jesus Christ (1 Cor 15:45, 47, 49), now we have been recreated through the gospel in the same image of Jesus that now shines on us (2 Cor 4:4). All humans in the lost sinful state have still one third of the marred image of God (James 3:9). Yet once we have received salvation and were saved by believing Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we got recreated in the same species of the image of God, the sin marred image of lost humanity have suddenly got recreated in to the very image of God through the Gospel of Christ just like Adam and Eve were existing before in the garden of Eden before sin entered through one man Adam our forefather (Rom 5:12, 17, 18-19, 21). Thus I believe we have become the same type of species just like Jesus and therefore we were begotten through the Word of God (1 Peter 1:23). Thus when Jesus marries the Church, both Jesus and his Bride which is the Church will be of the same species, which means in the future time after the Rapture of the Church, both will be full humans in their glorified bodies and at the same time the Son and sons of God in their restored image of God, and that is why both were called as brethren in other words of the same flock (Luke 24:39-43; Heb 2:10-11; John 10:16; Eph 2:14-18, 22). We will all be like Jesus in our glorious body in our make up, but in power, authority and glory we will all differ according to the works we do in the will of God after we become saved to live for God's glory (1 Cor 15:41, 42-44; Rev 22:12).
