Can We As Believers Live In Just The Blessings Without The Curses At All?
Five hundred years later the curse pronounced by Joshua was worked out in that man who rebuilt the city. It cost him two of his children. Can you imagine the doctors of that day trying to determine the cause of their deaths? No obvious medical reason – no known diagnosis, and yet they died. The doctors didn’t know that the cause went back 500 years to a curse that had been pronounced as a judgment on the city which God determined should never be rebuilt. Can you see that you may be dealing with things in your life of which the cause can go back hundreds of years?"
The question that I am asking you is, can a believer in Christ be affected by some legitimate curses for which the cause can go back hundred of years? Does the believer have the choice to choose blessings and reject curses? What Christ really did for us on the Cross will bring blessings only spiritually or in all realms of our existence? How do we apply Christ's blood to receive all the blessings and none of the curses?
Answer : Greetings to you in Jesus wonderful name! Paul one of the greatest apostle of all times who wrote one third of the entire New Testament has clearly revealed in his epistles to the Galatians, "13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith." (Gal 3:13-14).
Here in the above verses we see that Paul the apostle was saying to all of us believers in Christ, that Christ has redeemed us all from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us so that the blessing of Abraham might come upon us who are the Gentile believers in Christ Jesus, so that the source of all the blessings of Abraham which was the promise of the Spirit might be received individually by us the believers through faith so that we mighty have all the blessings of Abraham in our lives too. So now we need to know what is the actual blessing of Abraham? What did God bless Abraham with really? Here is what happened when God changed Abram's name in to Abraham, (i.e.) in the Scripture God Almighty said, "Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but they name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee." (Gen 17:5).
In other words, when God again promised to make Abram a father of many nations and then changed his name to Abraham (father of a multitude) instead of Abram (exalted father), you will notice God inserts the "ah" into his name. The "ah" is an oath never to be broken because the Lord hath spoken it, "H" in Hebrew stands for "breath of God" or "Spirit of God" which is indicative of the fact that God breathed His Spirit into him! In other words, He gave him His Holy Spirit.
God here is stressing that his covenant was not only with Abraham, but with "thy seed after thee" as an everlasting covenant (Gen 17:7), which again clearly teaches us that the same Spirit of God is the blessing of Abraham that God has promised all the children of God to be privileged to receive with in the nation of Israel to some degree and in fullness within the Church.
Of course we know as we receive the promise of the Spirit, which is the salvation experience first in which we are sealed with the guarantee of the Holy Spirit in us till the Rapture happens and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit next which can happen instantly with no gap between them, or first the salvation experience and then a gap to seek and receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit experience, but always in the order of first salvation and next Baptism of the Holy Spirit which comes with the external evidence of speaking in tongues indicating the internal infilling of the Spirit when the first time it happens to a believer (Eph 1:13-14; Acts 8:14-15, 16; 10:44-48), it is indeed the greatest blessing of a believer to receive this spiritual blessing as Paul also reveals in Eph 1:3, that God has already blessed us with and qualified every believer to be blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.
Now comes another question, was Abraham blessed spiritually only or in all things?
We know from the Bible, God reveals saying, "Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things." (Gen 24:1). Does all things include material blessings too? Yes it is, hear what the eldest or chief servant of Abraham says about him in this context, "35 The LORD has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great; and He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male and female servants, and camels and donkeys. 36 And Sarah my master’s wife bore a son to my master when she was old; and to him he has given all that he has." (Gen 24:35-36; 15:2). The blessing of the Lord maketh a man rich and the Lord adds no sorrows with it (Prov 10:22; Eccl 6:1-3, 6). The way Lord wants the believers to be blessed is to slowly add all kinds of blessings in all realms of life existence by and by, after they start to grow spiritually more and more through the blessing of the Spirit, so that they will be able to handle the riches and make it stay with them for the Glory of God (3 John 1:2; Prov 20:21; 28:20; 1 Tim 6:9, 10). Or else when God gives blessings of all kind, that is, in the area of the soul, body, financial and social areas of life without growing in the Spiritual blessing in one's spirit, soon the blessings of life with out the spiritual blessings of the life to come will become a snare to us, and so it will not be blessed by God at the end of it all which will end in sorrow of the soul and again the destruction of all blessings by the enemy of our soul who will steal, kill and destroy all of it (John 10:10; Deut 8:10). A prideful heart of poor spirituality will turn people away from the Lord God easily, and so the Lord first wants the believer to be blessed spiritually and then gradually be blessed more and more all the days of their earthly life like Abraham in all other areas of their life until they become great in their old age with all the blessings of the Lord being sustained by their consistent spiritual lives. The greatest blessing we learn in this earthly life is the blessing of returning to God often from our flesh which deceives us to go away from God, and staying with Him in His Presence consistently (Jer 17:9, 7; Psa 16:11). So very, very simply the primary cause of all blessings is listening to God’s voice and doing what He says (Deut 28:1).
Now we know that the Lord says in His Word through His Prophet Jeremiah, "Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the LORD." (Jer 17:5).
This shows to us that curse does not come without a cause. The main cause of a curse is a heart that departs from the Lord to make a person believe in himself rather than in the Lord constantly (Prov 14:12; 16:9, 3; 3:5-6). In other words, the primary cause of all curses is not listening to God’s voice, not doing what He says. So there basically you have the two root causes (Deut 28:15).
The Word of God says, "An undeserved curse has no effect. Its intended victim will be no more harmed by it than by a sparrow or swallow flitting through the sky" (Prov 26:2, LB). In other words, if there’s a curse there’s always a cause, there’s something that caused it in our lives. So we come to know that if someone will curse us for no reason other than their jealously or hate towards us, we as God's people are immune from the curse of it and have authority over it to break it and make it void.
Let us see that there are more specific reasons for curses coming in to our lives through God Himself : the reason God sends curses are because of disobedience (Deut 28:15), treachery (Prov 17:13), injustice to the Weak or Helpless (Prov 22:22-23; Isaiah 10:1-3), illicit or unnatural sex (Heb 13:4), anti-semitism (Gen 12:3), trust in Man (Prov 29:25; Jeremiah 17:5–6), perjury (Zec 5:3, LB), stinginess toward God (Malachi 3:8–10), preaching false gospel (Gal 1:8-9), God's "Mouthpieces" (Jos 6:26; 2 Sam 1:21; 1 Kin 16:34; 2 Kings 2:23-24; 5:27; Matt 21:20-22), relational authority (Eph 6:1-9; Prov 18:7, 21; Gen 31:19-20, 32, 34-35; 27:7, 12-13, 27-29, 37, 38-40; James 3:14-15), self-imposed (Gen 27:11, 46; Psa 118:17; Matt 27:24-25; 26:33-34; John 21:14-18), unscriptural covenants (Exo 23:32; Jos 9:1-27; Num 25:16-18; Jos 13:22; Rev 2:14, 20), servants of Satan (Num 22:4–6; Jos 13:22; 1 Sam 17:43), abominations in the home (Deut 7:26; Jos 7:10-13).
Curses are real, Satan and his evil demons are those executioners who execute the curse of God upon all humans (Eccl 10:20; Matt 13:4, 19; Job 1:12; 2:3-7; Eph 2:2; 6:12; Gen 1:28). So we know that Satan is given power legally to bring a curse or take people in to the house of bondage whenever a person gives room for Satan, flesh or the world to influence them by their own will in being involved in these activities (Rom 6:16; 2 Pet 2:19; Exo 20:2).
But once we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, legally God brings us all out of the bondage of the slavery of the kingdom of darkness which has the right to bring curses, in to the Kingdom of His Son which is full of blessings as we obey God's voice coming from heaven through Jesus to us by the Holy Spirit (Col 2:13; Heb 12:22, 25; John 16:7-8, 13-14).
Satan does have power over humans from the day Adam our forefather lost his God-given authority by disobedience (Luke 4:6; Rom 5:12), but because we have come to Jesus' Kingdom, He has taken that authority that was lost by our forefather Adam and have again given it to all of us who have become the citizen subjects of his Kingdom and above all the children of God (Matt 28:18, 19-20; Heb 2:14-15; 1 John 3:8-9; Luke 10:19-20).
Now we can choose to condemn the works of Satan in our lives and break the power of the curses of Satan which cannot do anything serious over us in harming us.
Here is what God says regarding this, "16...I have created the waster to destroy. 17 No weapon that is formed against you shall be blessed; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment, you shall condemn. This [is] the inheritance of the servants of Jehovah, and their righteousness [is] from Me, says Jehovah." (Isa 54:16-17, MSG). In other words, God is saying that we as the servant of the God Almighty has the authority to condemn all curses that come through the destroyers [i.e. executioners of curses] who act as enemy of God and us, and make it spiritually void by the authority of the words we speak against the evil powers that try to come against us to defeat us spiritually. This authority of God to make evil powerless against us is the inheritance we have now received as the righteous children of God in Christ Jesus (John 1:12; Luke 10:17-18, 19-20). Thus curses cannot overcome a child of God, but we overcome them by the right way of living, loving the enemies but hating the demons and curses working behind them, and thus cancelling all the curses through using the authority that God has given to us through the words of our mouth.
But all these blessings do not come automatically, but we have to fight spiritually and keep on obeying the voice of the Lord by faith, then passing through the tests of life we will begin to be blessed by God in all things as we become a overcomer to inherit a mighty blessing by becoming and being a blessing as the child of the Most High God (Jam 1:12; 1 Pet 3:7, 8-12).
In other words, God promised to give Canaan to the Israelites, but it did not fall in to their hands on one day because the beast of the field might become too numerous against Israelites, so God gave them a fight to do it by faith and He has promised to work with them and displace their enemies by His terror to make the Israelites inherit the land by defeating their enemies (Deut 11:23-25). The Lord has promised His very Presence with us to displace all the curses and enemies that come against us, but we have to choose to obey His voice and keep fighting by faith, then we will be blessed in all things as the Lord has promised in all areas of life now and even in the life to come (Deut 7:17-22; Heb 13:5). The Lord has also promised with His children spiritually that He will drive out the curses only little by little over a period of time as we keep obeying the voice of the Lord (1 Cor 10:7-8, 9-10, 11), because if he takes away the demonic enemies who act against us as curses in a single day, the beasts of the fleshly sin nature within us might become too numerous for us to handle and thus lead us in to destroying ourselves (John 10:10; Gal 5:19-21). If like Samson we by the power of God and the blessing of His anointing kill the external lion of the curses that come to kill us in a day, but fail to kill the fleshly lion of the sin nature within day by day (Luke 9:23), then that lion inside might soon one day lead us in to destruction over which we will not have any power to overcome, and thus will be killed by it to lose the supernatural blessing of heaven. So as we live a overcoming life of faith, we will soon experience victory over sin and blessing alike progressively to stay blessed more and more for the rest of our life now and for eternity ahead (1 John 5:4). Praise the Lord!
Generational curses are there, even from the trait and behavior that we inherit from our parents we can say how much of what they do influence us in our life and behavior. The Bible mentions “generational curses” in several places (Exodus 20:5; 34:7; Numbers 14:18; Deuteronomy 5:9). God warns that He is “a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me.” Implied in the warning of Exodus 20:5 is the fact that the children will choose to repeat the sins of their fathers. But in the very next verse He promised that He would show “love to a thousand [generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments” (Exodus 20:6). So the cure for a “generational curse” is repentance of the sin in question, faith in Christ, and a life consecrated to the Lord will not only cure us from curses progressively but also will make us immune to it over a period of time (Romans 12:1-2; Exo 15:26; Nah 1:9).
Now God in Christ Jesus has given us the power to choose blessing, and resist or reject curses to not allow it to take root in our lives. Here is what Jesus says to us, "This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live." (Deut 30:19, NIV). As we love Jesus and hear his commandments to choose life and keep them (John 14:15-18), we will experience blessing of enjoying heavenly life more abundantly in every area of the realms of earthly life now (John 10:10).
Sin is a curse and in the New Testament it cannot have dominion over us because of the grace of our Lord Jesus that has broken the law of sin and death legally by the law of the Spirit (Rom 6:14; 8:1-2), now it is up to us to practically enforce the legal rights and use our authority to break the curses that tries to come over us after we were saved by our Lord Jesus. It is like a police man who uses his authority to stop and arrest the offenders and give them a charge sheet to make them drive away from being lawless to make them to continue to be subject to the local law. The demons are subject to us who are God's police men and sons of God (Rom 8:14), to make keep them from breaking the law and we being subject to God's law and receiving life of God as loving children of God (Rom 8:13; 6:12, 6, 16; 10:17, 20).
Christ's blood is not used to reject curses altogether in one day to continue the rest of our lives with no curse at all, as it is impossible because we all have a sin nature within us that will try to deceive us to sin and receive the curse of God legally (1 John 1:6, 8, 10), but rather the Blood of Christ is applied by God from heaven to us automatically when we confess our sins to God and stay in fellowship with Him (1 John 1:3,-4, 7, 9; 2:1-2).
So the bottom line is, we cannot avoid the curses altogether in one day, but we can deal with the curses by the power of God and overcome it to stay blessed with all the blessings of heaven more and more progressively by reducing curses till the end of our earthly lives, so that one of these days God will give His testimony to say about our name just like He did to Abraham by proclaiming that he or she ....so..and so...was blessed in all things practically on earth. Believe God's promises and say amen to all of it which are all yes in Christ Jesus through us now (2 Cor 1:20), then we should continue to believe it all to hear the voice of God within our heart and live in the blessings of heaven more and more each day of our earthly lives (John 10:27-30; 1 John 5:13; Heb 12:22-23, 24-25).
Pray with me saints to the Lord Jesus : "Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that you are the Son of God and the only way to God, that you died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead. That on the cross you were made a curse with every curse that is due to me, that I might be redeemed from the curse and enter into the blessing. Lord, I confess any sins committed by me or by my ancestors. I ask your forgiveness. I also forgive every other person whoever harmed me or wronged me. I forgive them as I would have God forgive me. I also forgive myself. I renounce all contact with the occult in any form and I commit myself to get rid of any ‘contact objects.’ And now Lord, having received by faith your forgiveness, with the authority I have as a child of God, I now release myself and those under my authority from any curse over our lives. Right now, in the name of Jesus, I declare release. I claim it and I receive it by faith. In the name of Jesus. Amen.”
Now let’s make our good confession and I believe you’re now fully entitled to say this.
“Through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross we have passed out from under the curse and entered into the blessing of Abraham whom God blessed in all things.” Remember, you’ve made the U-turn from sins and curses towards God by already praying to Him and receiving forgiveness of sin and blessings of everlasting life, now continue to rightly choose life which is to love God and obey Him constantly day after day, and continue to live in the new direction which leads to life everlasting and abundant life, a life more satisfying and better than anything you ever dreamed of, for the rest of your life on earth and for eternity ahead.
Much Blessings.....
