The tradition of carving faces into vegetables dates to the Celts. As part of their autumnal celebration, they wanted to light the way to their homes for the good spirits, so they carved faces into vegetables such as turnips and squash.

We know that it is a pagan belief that has always believed superstition, a irrational belief in supernatural influences, especially as leading to good or bad luck. As for the Bible, we do not believe in luck either good or bad, because the God of the Bible has said, "all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Rom 8:28), which means God has the power to turn the good things as well as the bad things that happen in our life and turn it in to something of eternal good for our lives and living. Luck don't stand a chance before God.
These superstitious belief has the power to make our mind get darkened when we are already a child of God and it can take our focus away from God and weaken our faith drastically.
As the Bible says, "Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour." 1 Pet 5:8, NLT), we ought to be cautious when it comes to superstition or tradition, because through it the enemy can negate the power of God and can have a open door to come in to our life and bring fear through which he might be able to control us. Our fight is not against flesh and blood, or else the scare tatics to ward off evil spirit can be understandable, but as the Bible reveals that it is against, "the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Eph 6:12).
So when someone dresses up in a scary way to ward of evil spirits, one thing the demons and hordes of evil spirits in the world will do well is that they will all laugh and mock all those who do such stuff, and those very evil spirits who work along with Satan may even get in to the hearts and minds of both children and adults through making evil seem less bad than they are through the Halloween activities of trick-or-treating (or the related guising and souling), attending Halloween costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, divination games, playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, as well as watching horror films.
These are the very things that God has prohibited the Israelites from participating when he commanded them, " 9 "When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations living there. 10 For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, 11 or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD. The land we as the children of God inherit in the New Testament is the redeemed born again soul full of the light of heaven filled in to it and ready to wage war against the enemy from there on to see victory in every areas of our lives as overcomers. The Lord does not wants his children to be conformed to the world in their soul and mind, but want them to become transformed in to his character and nature through the renewing of their minds for the Glory of God! The giants of the kingdom of darkness wants to influence our soul in such a way, that it wants us to become conformed to the world system of thinking and become bounded to the things the Lord our God has forbidden us to do. By making us become like that, Satan can makes our life in the Kingdom become ineffective and meaningless.
In other words, because the Lord wants his people to be blameless before Him, the above activities are those which makes his people to become defiled and do the very detestable things that God hates. Now can you see why during Halloween's day activities the haunted becomes attractions, stories becomes scary to make us become fearful, horror films that entertains but creates a phobic fear through which evil spirits can control our mind, divination games that takes people to depth of evil, playing pranks to again brings sudden fear, speaking with the dead spirit the deception of darkness which deceives, inviting good luck spirits in to homes which seem good but are insidiously evil, etc....
Because of these activities the Lord who has promised never to leave not forsake his children, will have to chastise his children and will bring his heavy hand of correction in their lives (Deut 23:14; Exo 33:5, 7; 1 Peter 5:6; Heb 12:6-7). Usually in America, the media and hollywood has taken control of the nation and this insidious activies have been increasingly planned and done for decades, so that now it has become a fashion to take part in Halloween as a family and even try enjoying the activities which are against God. Schools are promoting it and why cringe when young children shoot one another and hate each other. Adults are enjoying what God hates, and how can good things of God's blessing be expected for a nation like America which has been so blessed by God in every way to take leadership among nations of the world, and in fact it is exporting its evil to instead of being a beacon of light in spreading the Gospel to the other nations around the world, which has been nearing its peak in this 21st century like never before?
Let us all repent of it and turn away from such evil activities to stay active in fellowship with pure hearted people of God to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ together with a pure heart which carries great reward for eternity ahead (2 Tim 2:22). Saints of God, make sure that you and your family stay protected within the Biblical boundaries of God's powerful protection of His Word and His Spirit, as the defilement of Halloween will not ward off evil spirit, but will only make the Spirit of God to get grieved to make Him become silent when his children take part in it because of spiritual blindness, lethargy and rebellion in their heart caused by the world system of thinking. May God protect the true children of God from being deceived by such pagan and evil festivals of deception and darkness. Amen!
