Question: Who wrote the Book of HEBREWS? Can someone be pointed out so clearly as its author? Please support your answer with Scriptures.
Answer: Greetings to you in Jesus wonderful name!
THE SIGNATURE PATTERN OF ENDING THE EPISTLE WITH OR WITHOUT HIS NAME, BUT AS A TEAM IS PAULINE, AND IS QUITE UNMISTAKABLE‼️✌🏽🙏🏽
Hebrews 13
14: For HERE WE HAVE NO CONTINUING CITY, but we seek the one to come.
15: Therefore by Him LET US continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
16: But DO NOT FORGET TO DO GOOD AND TO SHARE, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
17: OBEY THOSE WHO RULE over you, and be submissive, for THEY WATCH OUT for your souls, as those who must give account. LET THEM DO SO with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.
18: PRAY FOR US; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honorably.
19: But I especially urge you to do this, that I MAY BE RESTORED TO YOU the SOONER.
20: Now may the GOD OF PEACE who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, THAT GREAT SHEPHERD OF THE SHEEP, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
21: MAKE YOU COMPLETE in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
22: And I APPEAL TO YOU, BRETHREN, bear with the word of exhortation, for I have written to you in few words.
23: Know that OUR BROTHER TIMOTHY has been set free, WITH WHOM I SHALL SEE YOU if he comes shortly.
24: GREET ALL THOSE WHO RULE OVER YOU, and ALL THE SAINTS. Those from Italy greet you.
25: GRACE BE WITH YOU ALL. Amen.
NO OTHER WRITERS OF HIS ERA HAD A SIGN OF APOSTOLIC PATTERN AND HIS GRACE TO END WITH. NEARLY ALL THE ELDERS AND RULERS OF THE CHURCH AT THAT TIME WAS APPOINTED BY PAUL AND HIS APOSTOLIC TEAM.
NOTE: TIMOTHY WAS A DIRECT DISCIPLE OF PAUL. ITALY WAS THE PLACE HE SPENT THE LAST YEARS OF HIS LIFE BEFORE MARTYRDOM.
THE ONLY APOSTLE WHO EXPECTED HIS OWN RESTORATION TO THE CHURCH, SO THAT THROUGH THE OPPORTUNITIES GOD GIVES, HE MAY BE ABLE TO IMPART SOMETHING NEW TO THE CHURCH OF HEBREWS.
THE ONLY APOSTLE WHO ASKED IN HUMILITY TO THE BELIEVERS TO PRAY FOR HIM AND HIS TEAM WAS NONE OTHER THAN PAUL.
TO SHARE AND SUPPORT THOSE WHO MINISTER AND RULE IN THE CHURCH, IS THE BASIS OF PAUL'S MESSAGE TO CHRISTIANS AS WELL AS JEWISH BELIEVERS.
NO OTHER APOSTLES COULD BE SO KNOWLEDGEABLE TO WRITE ✍🏽 SUCH INDEPTH BOOK 📚 TO THE HEBREWS EXCEPT PAUL THE ONE KNOWN AS THE FOUNDATIONAL AND INSPIRED WRITER FROM THE LORD JESUS TO THE CHURCH IN ALL THE WORLD.
Though the Book of Hebrews is officially anonymous, as the author never identifies themselves within the text, yet through reading through the pattern of writing, we can come to the conclusion, that the book of Hebrews was written by The Apostle Paul because in many areas of his writings especially when writing to the Corinthians about going to the third heaven, he hides himself in humility and reveals only the glory of God to the Church in need.
Tradition: Historically, the most common attribution. The King James Bible and early church traditions (especially in the East) often title it "The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews".
* Support: The mention of Timothy as a companion in Hebrews 13:23 points to Paul, as Timothy was his close associate (cf. Philippians 1:1).
* Support: As a Pharisee of Pharisees and not just a Levite like his partner in ministry which Barnabas was (Acts 4:36). Paul identifies himself as a "Pharisee, son of Pharisees" in Acts 23:6 (KJV/ESV), stating this before the Sanhedrin to highlight his belief in the resurrection. In other contexts, he describes his strict adherence to the law as a "Pharisee of Pharisees" (or similar phrasing) to emphasize his rigorous Jewish background (Philippians 3:5).
Acts 23:6 (NIV/ESV): "Brothers, I am a Pharisee, descended from Pharisees..."
Philippians 3:5: Describes himself as a Hebrew of Hebrews; as for the law, a Pharisee.
Acts 26:5: "I conformed to the strictest sect of our religion, living as a Pharisee".
These above verses highlight Paul's background, showing he was not just a member, but a highly trained and zealous follower of the Pharisaic tradition before his conversion, and the One and only among all the Apostles to be qualified to write the Book of Hebrews for the Glory of God.
Paul as a Pharisee and his past experience with the Sanhedrin leaders of Jerusalem, would have possessed the intimate knowledge of the priestly system and sacrificial laws central to the book. And the in-depth sophisticated Greek style of Hebrews resembles no other person but Paul.
The book itself provides several clues about its author:
*The author uses a masculine participle when referring to himself in the original Greek of Hebrews 11:32 ("And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell...").
* He notes that the message was "confirmed to us by those who heard" the Lord (Hebrews 2:3), and Paul was the only one who heard the Lord in a vision and followed him alone as a man who dedicated the rest of his life for the Lord. All other 12 Apostles literally, had the privilege of being with the Lord and hearing him. So Paul looked up to the foundational Apostles of the Lamb who wrote the other Books of the Bible like Peter and John, and the other important Gentile writer, Dr. Luke the first Church historian who travelled with Paul and wrote the Book of Luke and Acts. Luke was one of Paul's most loyal companions, often referred to as the "beloved physician" (Colossians 4:14). Though Luke, Priscilla, Apollo and Barnabas are suggested by many contemporary theologians and scholars, yet the weight of evidence points to none other than Paul the Apostle!
* Pauline Circle: He was a close associate of Timothy (Hebrews 13:23). No other person used Timothy as much as Paul, and called him by name in nearly all his letters of which two he wrote personally to him. No one was a predecessor in the above scholarly assumed list to Apostle Paul, but rather were his successors. No other person in his team had the spiritual standing to tell the Church in writing saying, "I will come" along with my team except Paul.
Ultimately, most scholars agree with the 3rd-century theologian Origen, who famously concluded: "Who wrote the epistle (of Hebrews), in truth, God knows". But we who have read, reread and mastered, and identified his style of writings also know, through the pattern of his other Pauline epistles written for the Church, that without an iota of doubt, the title, "The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews", is a fitting tribute to the work of this humble apostle Paul who only sought souls, but never sought a name for himself except for Jesus Christ his Master, and he as a bond slave without claiming any rights for himself until his death. Glory to God!
WITHOUT DOUBT, THE WRITER TO THE BOOK OF HEBREWS IS PAUL INDEED❗
Much Blessings.....
