The Second Coming of Jesus Christ (also called the Second Advent or Parousia) is the biblical promise that Jesus will return to Earth in power and glory to judge the world and establish His eternal kingdom. While the exact timing can be unknown to unbelievers who will be taken by surprise at his coming, it will be known to God's children through the understanding of Daniel's 70th week of 7 years. Scripture provides a detailed framework of what this event will look like and why it occurs.
THE MANNER OF HIS RETURN
Unlike His first coming as a humble baby, the Second Coming will be a sudden, universally visible, and unmistakable event.
* VISIBLE TO ALL: Jesus described His return as, "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. "And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." (Matthew 24:30-31). This is that which Jesus revealed to John the apostle in Revelation 1:7 where He says, "every eye will see him".
* ON THE CLOUDS: He will descend from heaven "on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory" (Matthew 24:30).
* LOUD AND DRAMATIC: His arrival will be accompanied by the Church with loud and dramatic sound from heaven "at the (ending time of the 7th and) Last Trump" (1 Cor 15:52). Jesus Christ is depicted as a warrior on a white horse, named "Faithful and True," followed by the Church on white horses and the angelic armies of heaven accompanying them (Revelation 19:11-14).
KEY SCRIPTURAL EVENTS
The Second Coming triggers several major redemptive and judgmental events:
* RESURRECTION OF THE MARTYRED SAINTS: The "dead in Christ", the Tribulation Martyrs and martyred saints will be raised first with immortal, Millenial glorious bodies in the first Resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:52; Rev 20:4-6).
Note : Gathering of the Living believers, "caught up together" with the resurrected dead to meet the Lord in the air is Rapture, and it not the Second Coming of Jesus Christ in which all will see him on earth (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
* FINAL JUDGMENT: Jesus will separate people "as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats," rewarding the righteous and judging those who rejected Him (Matthew 25:31-46).
* DEFEAT OF EVIL: He will overthrow the Antichrist and destroy the works of the devil (2 Thessalonians 2:8; Revelation 19:20).
THE PURPOSE OF HIS RETURN
* TO FULFILL PROPHECY: The Second Coming completes hundreds of Old and New Testament promises regarding the Messiah's reign.
* TO ESTABLISH HIS KINGDOM: He will rule as "KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS" (Revelation 19:16) during the Millenial rule of Jesus and the Church, after ushering in a "new heaven and a new earth" for the Church after the anytime after the mid-point of Daniel 70th week Rapture, where there is no more pain or death (Revelation 21:1-4).
* TO RESCUE HIS PEOPLE: Scripture portrays it as a rescue mission for believers facing tribulation.
THE ULTIMATE WRATH OF THE LAMB WILL BE THE ARMAGEDDON BATTLE!
