For years one of the main expectations of the Christian or Jewish zealots, may be even until now is that, by someone launching a missile that might hit the dome, or by natural earthquake or by some disaster of Fire, "the way for the Third Temple building might happen soon.” But look closer at this powerful scene of what the reality is, more simpler than anyone can imagine, and perhaps even more sobering, just as revealed in the Bible.
The traditional site many associate with the Holy of Holies (where the Second Temple stood had nothing placed inside the holiest place when Jesus arrived), also it does mean that it isn’t necessarily directly under the Dome itself according to the research of archaeology found until now. Some scholars and traditions place it slightly north or adjacent where Holy of Holies stood, meaning a Third Temple could theoretically rise alongside existing structures, with a wall or barrier separating the sacred from the shared space.
Doesn’t Scripture hint at something like this? In Revelation 11:1-2, John is told: “Rise and measure the temple of God and the altar and those who worship there, but do not measure the court outside the temple; leave that out, for it is given over to the (Gentile) nations, and they will trample the holy city for forty-two months.”
This speaks of a temple where God’s people worship, yet an outer court remains under Gentile (non-Jewish) control, trampled for a time times and half a time (meaning three and half years from the stopping of the sacrifice). A dividing line. A separation on the very Mount will remain, until the Armageddon happens and the area is cleansed by our dear Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for the Millenial rule from it.
It’s a gentle reminder to the Church that God’s plans for the nation of Israel is starting to unfold in His timing in our generation where already a group of Jews have already sacrificed the red Heifer and is going to continue the sacrifice until the mid-point, in which the Third Temple will be occupied by the Antichrist as according to the prophetic expectation of dramatic scenarios in reality. The Temple Mount will remain a place of deep longing, conflict, and prophecy, as the Christian Roman Catholic, Islam and Israel the Jewish nation has deep stake in it equally. Yet ultimately, we know the true Temple is Jesus Himself (John 2:19-21), who will come at the time of Armageddon and will destroy the Third Temple and will use the Jews to raise up the FOURTH TEMPLE FOR THE MILLENIAL KINGDOM GLORY TO BE REVEALED TO THE WHOLE WORLD. And soon one day, every knee will bow before Him.
