I am Praying For My Parents, And I am Constantly Attacked By The Devil. What Should I Do?
I was a non-believer earlier with a Hindu Background since my birth. However, by the grace of God I got saved in 2009-2010. My entire maternal family is still Hindu. Till now I did not have any issue but since a year different dreams are a reason of my concern.
In my dreams my Grandmother (Father’s mother) my Aunt & Uncle who are already expired come in my dreams and they talk nicely with me or they are just sitting smiling towards me. Their entire focus is on me. They also offer me delicious food and coax me to eat it. Once I had it but in all other cases I have denied to eat even in my dreams. However, they constantly insist for me to eat it.
Along with all these dead people my mother (Who’s alive) is also a part of every dream and she also keeps on insisting me to eat.
Recently my mother and grandmother (Mother’s Mother – Both Alive) took me to a place very far away from the city. It was a huge old Shiva temple. I told them several times that I won’t worship their God. They said ok we know that you won’t worship but at least come with us inside. Once I went in they said if you want you can also worship, but I resisted and then I woke up. 2-3 days prior to this dream while I was praying my daily prayer and I was repenting for my sins in noon & all of a sudden an image of Lord Shiva came before me, after I resisted the devil it cleared off and then I continued praying.
I am also constantly praying for the salvation of my parents. How do I get rid of these attacks of the Devil. This is making me anxious before sleep every night since last 2-3 days.
Answer: Greetings to you in Jesus wonderful and lovely name dear Sister. Praise to the Lord Jesus Christ for having chosen you before you chose Him (Eph 1:4). In other words, if God has not called you to be saved, you could not have responded to his call when you became saved. Jesus Himself said to His disciples, "You didn't choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name." (John 15:16, NLT). Thank God, if we have chosen him, we have to fear the enemies attack upon us, and that we have to defend ourselves even if we have power or not for resisting such evil attack against us. Praise the Lord and rejoice that when we were saved, our Father God who is in heaven (Matt 6:9,b), "has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love [i.e. Our Lord Jesus Christ]." (Col 1:13). O Glory! Now that we are in the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ, we must understand that, and keep remembering in our hearts that no matter what attacks we face from the devil and his demons, "We are of God, and have become his little children, and we have already overcome all demons and Satan himself as they have no more have power over us, because He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world." (1 John 4:4, Paraphrased).
The Scripture clearly says that, "13 You were dead in sins, and your sinful desires were not yet cut away [when you were unsaved]. Then he gave you a share in the very life of Christ, for he forgave all your sins [when you were saved by God], 14 and blotted out the charges proved against you, the list of his commandments which you had not obeyed. He took this list of sins and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ's cross. 15 In this way God took away Satan's power to accuse you of sin, and God openly displayed to the whole world Christ's triumph at the cross where your sins were all taken away. 16 So don't let anyone criticize you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating [any religious symbolic]...holidays and feasts or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. 17 For these were only temporary rules that ended when Christ came. They were only shadows of the real thing--of Christ himself." (Col 2:13-17, LB). In other words, now Satan or his demons cannot make you get condemned either through dreams or even if you go with your old friends or families and they give you a meal that they might have offered to idols, and you thank God for it and eat it and it will become a sanctified and blessed food (1 Tim 4:1-2, 3, 4-5). Because now that you have become a child of God, no person in this earth or the whole universe will be able to separate you from the love of God shown to you freely in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior (Rom 8:37-39), in other words, you cannot get unsaved by your works (Eph 2:8-9).
We also know from Paul the apostle who assured us, "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit." (Rom 8:1-4). Praise the Lord! Every believer is in Christ Jesus and is sealed by the Holy Spirit who becomes a resident within the child of God for eternity ahead (Rom 8:9; Eph 1:13-14). In fact, as you come from a Hindu background, the conscience within you might tend to think that if you partake in food offered to idols, again you come under the dominion of gods and lords of the world. In fact the Bible does not deny the truth that Satan is still the "prince of the power of the air" (2 Cor 4:4) and exposes it to signify that in every way he rules over the world system of governance and the people in it through their fear of death and blindness of unbelief towards the light of the gospel (Eph 2:2; 2 Cor 4:4; Heb 2:15). Death means 'separation'. Sin pays backs the wages with death (Rom 6:23), which is separation from the Holy God (Isa 59:2). The devil makes us sin in our thoughts through injecting fearful thoughts which when we accept it, makes us sin. In other words, faith pleases God, fear displeases God (Heb 11:6), because it conveys a message that the 'promise keeping God who is the Creator of the whole universe' cannot be trusted for who He says He is. We bring the unfailing God to the level of our emotions, which changes like a changing weather often.
When we are saved and become a child of God, there comes a eternal union with God which makes God declare that He has forgiven our past, present and future sins once and forever, and that He has promised to write the laws of God in our hearts and that He has promised never ever to remember our sins again (Isa 1:18; Heb 10:15-17). But when we allow fear to control us, we do sin and move away from God. So what should we do? We should confess our fears to God first (Psa 56:3), and put our trust back in Him by seeking him with our whole heart, when we do it we are in fact telling to God that He is holy; He is a King; and He is all powerful, and because He loves us He will bring the right solution for us at the right time (2 Chro 20:3-9, 12, 14). This restores our faith back and the devil will be defeated. When we sin, we should confess to God the sin as soon as possible and get His tangible Presence back as soon as possible. Only developing such habit can keep us safe always in faith!
The devil knows that faith and fear cannot co-exist together. When faith comes, fear flees away. When fear attacks, faith becomes paralyzed. So now that you have become the child of the Most High God and that you are also praying to the Lord for your parents inner eyes of their spirit to get opened and for them to get saved, Satan is very much concerned about your effective prayers that is effectively causing God's Hand to move on behalf of you towards your parents to rescue them out of their darkened mind and unsaved state of existence towards God. Yes I appreciate your prayers for your parents, because it is a promise that God has given every child of God that when they "believe on the Lord Jesus", not only they, but their family too become saved through their prayers made to the Father God who is in heaven (Acts 16:30-31).
Also we see Paul the apostle further said in the Scripture, "3 But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him. 4 Therefore concerning the eating of things offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one. 5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords), 6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live. 7 However, there is not in everyone that knowledge; for some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled." (1 Cor 8:3-7). We as the children of God, have our One God as the Lord of all the earth and heavens (Matt 28:18), for us there is none other than Him and Him alone who lives and moves in our being (Deut 6:4, 5-9; Acts 17:25-26, 27, 28). So a dream of a temple or partaking in the feast of which you have no desire now as a child of God (1 John 3:6; Rom 7:15, 17), or demons and Satan himself transforming into an angel of light or impersonating as your dead Grandmother (Father’s mother), your Aunt & Uncle or even your living mother and grandmother (2 Cor 11:14), need not bother you or bring fear in you any way as you should understand that this attack has come against you for the last one year as you say because I believe around that time you would have started to pray for your parents salvation. So Satan never wants to lose a single unsaved person out of the grip of his earthly and worldly kingdom (Matt 4:8-9). He now attacks you because you have become a spiritual threat to his kingdom through your regular prayer life. To overcome this, you need to feed yourself with the Word of God and stand on it like Jesus did and overcame Satan when he faced temptation from him (Matt 4:1, 4, 7, 10). The Bible reveals that we believers can overcome Satan and his demons only by declaring the victory of the blood of Jesus over Satan and his demons, which was actually achieved from the day our Lord Jesus' died on the Cross, which gives us a clear good conscience apart from any sins we have done through confessing it to God, and thus our confession and submission to God gives us a holy boldness to declare ourselves as righteous as Jesus is, in Him, who has righteously paid the debt for our sins towards God for us all (Rev 12:11; Heb 9:14; 1 John 1:7, 9; 2 Cor 5:21; John 19:30; James 4:7).
You need to hear the Word of God daily and grow in faith more and more (Rom 10:17), then your conscience which might be weak now because of your background will become stronger and stronger to resist the satanic ways of harassing you through fear (1 John 4:18; Gal 5:6). As for now I will say, "If your hearts condemn you, you know that God is greater than your heart, and he knows everything about your motives and the good intention of your new and perfect heart which you received when you were born again as a child of God." (1 John 3:20, Paraphrased; Heb 12:23; Eph 4:24; Rom 7:22). In other words, God distinguishes the sin from the sinner and then will say when we sin, "See the vileness of the sin nature working in my son/daughter, which is working in them against the new nature that I placed within them." (Luke 15:24; Rom 7:17-19; Gal 5:17; 4:29-31). So when we sin in thoughts, actions or our motives, run to the Lord Jesus and confess those sins and keep yourself under the blood of Jesus constantly. And declare the victory of Jesus through your mouth after that saying, "Victory unto the blood of JESUS! Victory unto the blood of JESUS!...," until fear flees away and by faith through hope of rejoicing you get filled with the love of God through the Holy Spirit (Rom 5:2, 5). When you rejoice in the Lord, actually you are releasing the joy of the Lord from heaven which is in your spirit man to the Soul which has been held by bondage of the evil one through fear (Php 4:4). The moment heaven fills your soul, the carnal fear flees away from you. Martin Luther boldly declared, "Be a sinner and sin strongly, but more strongly have faith and rejoice in Christ." That should be your boldness too in Christ when fear and unbelief of the evil heart of soulishness attacks you to cause you to sin through fear (Heb 3:12). Fear in itself is a sin when we do not resist it with faith and overcome it (2 Tim 1:7). Anything that controls us apart from God is sin (1 Cor 6:12; 1 John 3:4).
Jesus victoriously declared to us all who have faith in Him, "23 At this present time you won't need to ask me for anything, for you can go directly to the Father and ask him, and he will give you what you ask for because you use my name. 24 You haven't tried this before, but begin now. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and your cup of joy will overflow.... 33 I have told you all this so that you will have peace of heart and mind. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows; but cheer up, for I have overcome the world." (John 16:23-24, 33, LB). According to the above verses which Jesus has spoken, Jesus has instructed us all to go to the Father God directly with all our problems and give it to Him to solve all of it by signing the name of Jesus at the end of all our prayers, Jesus has promised that when we do prayers like that, He will guard our hearts and minds from fear of the evil one (Php 4:6-7), it will make us sustain ourselves in our faith which will in turn make us overcomers right through out the time of the trial, and also experience sure victory at the end of all the trials that come our way (1 John 5:4). Faith is the victory, and faith comes in to us by hearing the voice of God, the voice of God operates when we hear the Word of God constantly through our outer hearing which is through our ears, which in turn goes straight in to our heart to activate the inner hearing within us. Thus when we store the Word of God in our heart, the Holy Spirit will use it to bring a spoken word of God from the throne of heaven right to us regarding our situations we face moment by moment in our lives. Then exactly like Jesus did face Satan and overcame him and made him to run for another opportune time, we too will be able to overcome any temptation of fear or otherwise and crush him under our feat strongly, so that he will have to flee from us (Luke 4:4, 8, 12-13; Rom 16:20).
When Satan comes against us, God knows it and only when He gives him permission he will be able to come against us (1 Cor 10:13). So the bottom-line is, every trial and temptation that we will ever face will work together for our eternal good and prosperous spiritual future. When you repent and do prayers at any time especially noon, that is the best attack against Satan and his demonic kingdom when all others will take a nap after eating stomach full of food. All that comes to my mind are the repentance of Daniel and prayer of Peter done around noon time (Dan 6:10; 9:21; Psa 55:17; Acts 10:9-16), I appreciate such sincere prayers. So do not worry about the demonic attack, because your prayers are causing enough damage to his little kingdom of lies and deceit, he is trying to show himself and scare you from the truth that you are exhibiting through your life. As the Bible confirms this above truth saying, "And no wonder! Satan does it all the time, dressing up as a beautiful angel of light." (2 Cor 11:14). So the so called "image of Lord Shiva" might be be Satan who dressed up like as an angel of light. Never believe such spiritual mirages, through which Satan always tries to deceive those who are ready to gulp up his lies.
You know in the Bible the Great man of God Job also had nightmares and visions of horror when he was tested by God, in fact Job was not aware that the source of it was Satan and he blamed God instead due to lack of Divine revelation, here is what he revealed, "14 Then You scare me with dreams and terrify me with visions, 15 So that my soul chooses strangling and death rather than my body. 16 I loathe my life; I would not live forever. Let me alone, for my days are but a breath." (Job 7:14-16). Job's lack of revelation was due to unbelief and self-righteousness which God was dealing with him at that time (Job 4:17-21), in spite of God's testimony about Job to Satan in which He asked him, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?” (Job 1:8). This shows that we might not have necessarily done anything wrong, but God tests us so that he could trust us with more revelation about Himself and more blessings for us and our family. Job was shaken to the core and was broken to pieces in his life of faith, that he told God simply to leave him alone so that he could die peacefully. But little did Job realize how much he was a favored man in the sight of God, so that He even gave testimony of this mortal man Job to Satan himself in the heavenlies. So I would suggest you to trust the Lord's wisdom through these times of testing, and continue to "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." (Jam 4:7-8). So submitting yourself to God without any question should be your first priority in your spiritual life, and then resist the Devil, by confessing who you are in Christ and what He has done for you to live a overcoming life of victory. Then declare to the devil and his demons that he is defeated on the Cross by our Lord Jesus, which he doesn't like, and this truth will cause him to flee and free you from any further disturbances and harassment (Col 2:14-15). The devil cannot know your thoughts though he might act as though he knows it all, but the truth that we need to stand on is that God is only omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. So speak against the Devil's accusation to overcome his barb of unbelief and lies thrown at you to cause fear in you. Finally above all, continue to pray and draw near to God whenever and wherever possible, God will draw near to you in response to such loving intimacy and fellowship.
Pray the following prayer loudly when you are attacked by the demonic world of Satan, "In the name of JESUS CHRIST my Lord and Savior I come against you Satan and your demons, I am a child of God (John 1:12; 3:3), you and your demons have been defeated by my Lord Jesus on the Cross and through the precious Blood of his sacrifice (Col 2:11-14, 15).
I do not belong to you anymore as I am redeemed now and have become the servant of the Most High God (Acts 16:17; Eph 1:7; 1 Peter 1:19-20). I am the Lord's beloved, so the Lord comes to speak to me His revelation even during my sleep, so I command you not to disturb me anymore like this in Jesus mighty name (Psa 127:2).
I stand on the truth and only the truth which is revealed to me by My God in heaven through Old Testament and New Testament 66 books (2 Tim 3:16-17; 1 Cor 10:11; Rom 15:4), and I lean on the pillar of truth which is the Church of my Lord Jesus to guide me through. I say begone with your lies from now on (1 Tim 3:15). I believe the Son of God and now have the testimony that I have eternal life of friendship with God forever (1 John 5:13; John 17:3). In Jesus name I resist you illegal spirit of fear, because God has legally given to me only the spirit of love, power and of a sound mind to stay in faith for the Glory of God (2 Tim 1:7).
Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior who died for my sins, rose again on the third day and ascended to heaven after 40 days of showing Himself and teaching to the believers and apostles, and He is seated at my Father's right hand in heaven forever and ever (1 Cor 15:3-4, 5-8; Acts 1:1-3, 9-11). Now all authority over the heaven and earth is with my Lord Jesus (Matt 28:18), and I am seated in the heavenly places along with my Lord Jesus Christ in my spirit holding the same authority over you and your demons (Eph 2:5-6, 7, 11), so I command you in that mighty authority of the name of Jesus not to mess with me any further and warn you not to come with your lies again to try to convince and mislead me. In Jesus wonderful name I give thanks and praise for all the undeserved benefits you have given me out of Your benevolence my Father in Heaven (Matt 6:9), Amen!"
Having said everything, finally I wanted to say, that this dream or nightmare might even be a test for your promotion in the spiritual realm where the Lord is allowing Satan and his demons in training you to wage spiritual warfare so that you may help many others to be delivered from fear and lead them to salvation in Christ Jesus in the time to come (2 Cor 1:3-4, 5-6). So I appreciate you resisting the Devil, keep continuing to do it as the soldier of the army of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Tim 2:3, 2). We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus (Rom 8:37), there is a eternal reward waiting for us which cannot be destroyed by natural predators or be robbed by humans or the devils (Matt 6:19-21), when we continue to serve our Lord Jesus Christ doing the business of salvation of souls (Rev 22:12; Acts 3, 4-5, 6-7). Choose not to be anxious about anything by giving all your burdens to God with constant disciplined prayer and thanksgiving for at least one hour or preferably more (Php 4:6-7; 1 Peter 5:7; Matt 26:39-41).
Much Blessings....
