What is Song of Solomon Chapter 2 Verse 7 is all about?

Re : More On "I Love One Girl, Is It God's Will For Me To Marry Her?"

Question : What is Song of Solomon Chapter 2 Verse 7 is all about? I don't think I am familiar with this book.

Answer :
Sos 2:7 says, "I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or by the does of the field, do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases."

The interpretation for the purpose and meaning of the Book of Song of Solomon is twofold, first it speaks about the love and intimacy that should be present within the institution of marriage and then metaphorically speaks of Christ, the Son and His heavenly bride, the Church (2 Corinthians 11:1-4). This clearly shows that both asceticism and lust are sacrilegious of the holiness of marriage.

This speaks of Shulamite woman who was a shepherdess who loved the king, she said this verse as a advice to the daughters of Jerusalem. The Shulamite woman wanted to marry her beloved because of a strong heart desire to spend the rest of her life with him in intimacy within the covenant of marriage. What she was going through in her life was dejection of being seperate after their consumation before she ever married her beloved. Sex before marriage is wrong and prohibited by God, this is what the Bible calls as fornication (1 Cor 6:9). It is a sin to get involved physically or even emotionally intimate before marriage because God considers marriage as honorable among all, and wants the marriage bed to be undefiled by any wrong doing and has promised to judge all those who would not abide by His command (Heb 13:4). Marriage is God's institution for all humans and it must be respected and honored by all men and means (Gen 2:20-25). God was the first priest to conduct it in the Garden of Eden to our first father and mother. So He has every right to condemn things working against the institution of marriage and has the authority to command to abide by His law which works for the well being of His holy institution.

The daughters of Jerusalem were all virgin girls who were young and were in danger of falling in love with any young boy in their age group and thereby were in the constant danger of losing their virginity before marriage. So it is indeed a nice piece of advice to all of our young teen age boys and girls, that they should keep their physical and emotional virginity intact till marriage takes place. The very fabric of the society is the family life and chastity within it. When the devil is allowed to interfere and break the institution of marriage through unfaithfullness, evil govermental policies and adultries, only heart break, chaos and lawlessness abound to destroy the society completely (Matt 24:12). Every civilisation that did not respect the institution of marriage in the past 6000 years of human existence, has got disintergrated , broken apart and got demised in to oblivion. God's blessing of fullness and satisfaction for fulfillment in our married life comes only when we hear the voice of God and obey it in our lives completely.

It also speaks to us about the Church not to fall in love with the world and lose their spiritual virginity and advises them to keep themselves unspotted from its evil influence until the marriage of the Lamb takes place very soon after the rapture of the Church (1 John 2:15; James 1:26-27; Rev 19:7,9; 1 Thess 4:16-17; 5:23).

May God help us to stir love with in the boundary of our marriage and also help us stay faithful to Jesus spiritually as we all in the Church look forward to the great day of consummation and rejoicing in the marriage of the Lamb of God who is depicted as our bridegroom for eterntiy.

Much Blessings....
