Why I Feel Abandoned By God Often?
Question : Even though I am a Christian who loves the Lord Jesus, why do I have the feeling of being abandoned by God many times over and over again?
Answer : When we sin and do not confess for long, we get that feeling of being abandoned by God. Actually the result of all sin which includes even a wrong thought is a separation from God (Rom 6:23), but because we are saved if we immediately and boldly confess to Jesus our sins, He will restore forgiveness and the Presence of God back to our soul immediately (Heb 4:14-16; 1 John 1:7, 9). The enemy of our souls continually will whisper malicious lies about our God and will even accuse Him of being a tyrant with lack of love towards us when we feel abandoned by God, but God allows these moments to test our faith and faithfulness. Never believe the devils lies which once believed will create more hindrance to our relationship with God and a increased feeling of abandonment, when in fact God is crying out for us to run back to Him confessing our sins. Once we have confessed to God, we must believe that He has already forgiven our sins because He is faithful and just to His promises. The Lord only withdraws himself like a father stops speaking to an unrepentant son, but the father never throws his son out of his family for his mistake, once he repents and becomes obedient again, the father will fellowship with his son again as though nothing bad has ever happened (Psa 103:13). In spite of our sin, the Lord only withdraws His Presence of fellowship and not His living Presence within us which He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us anytime of our life after we are born again (Heb 13:5).
If we do not forgive the sins of others in our progressive walk of Christian life, like as the Lord forgives our sins and trespasses unconditionally (Col 3:13; Eph 4:32), then the Father God in heaven will not forgive our daily sins in order to make way for us to fellowship with Him and experience His loving Presence within us (Matt 6:14-15). In this case, if we continue in unforgiveness due to any reason which may even be justifiable against the offender, we may feel abandoned by God. What we need to do in this scenario is that, we should immediately forgive the one who has committed offence against us unconditionally and let it go in Jesus name. Then we should bless the offender in Jesus name. Then immediately we will feel His loving Presence back in our soul.
Some times the accuser of the brethren, Satan and his demonic cohorts knowing that they cannot accuse us before the Lord any more like in the Old Testament days (Job 1:6-7; 2:1-2; Zech 3:1-5), wants to torment the believers and make them fruitless in their lives. Satan and his demons having been throw out of second heaven because of what Jesus has achieved for us on the Cross, now as Satan and his demons know that time for their judgment is drawing very near, it will try to accuse us within our sinful fallen soul consistently (Rev 12:9-10, 12-13; John 12:31; Col 2:15-17). The way God expects us to overcome this type of accusation of demonic intrusion in to our soul is by releasing our faith in the blood of Jesus and testifying verbally against all demonic mountains of depressive feelings, of our indisputable victory in Christ Jesus (Rev 12:11). Only what we speak out of our mouth can be heard in the spirit world of Satan and his demons, so that soon they will run away from us (Rom 10:10). Then as time progresses in our spiritual life, we should slowly submit our feelings to the Lord more and more (James 4:7), this is what it means to love not our soul lives unto death (Rev 12:11). When we suffer in the flesh and walk by faith denying our feelings (1 Peter 4:1-3; 2 Cor 5:7), slowly we learn to live in the New Covenant way of love and be an over comer by faith (1 John 5:4). It takes time but do not give it up. Over a period of time, you become more blessed and blessed than before to live an abundant life of heaven on earth (John 10:10; Matt 6:10). It is all worth the fight at the end!
