Who Was The First Cause Of The Fall Of Humans In To Sin?

Why God Should Make Adam Accountable First, For The Sin Of His Wife?

Question: Who was the cause of the fall of humans in to sin, was it Eve or Adam? Eve was the one who ate the forbidden fruit, but why was Adam made accountable for sin first. What really happened in the Garden of Eden at that time?

Answer: Greetings in Jesus wonderful name!

What really happened in the Garden Of Eden can be seen in the following verses clearly,
"1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings." (Gen 3:1-7).

What truth can we deduce from the above passages of Scriptures that clearly describes the fall of all human beings?, let us move on..., :

1) WAS SERPENT A REAL ONE? : Was the serpent a real one, or a illusionary one? First of all the serpent was said to be more cunning than any other beast of the field that the Lord God has made, that means it was a real one, which must have had a faculty of reasoning and the ability to take counsel to take a conscious choice within it initially
(Gen 3:1). Also when God cursed Satan for his evil work of seducing the mind of Eve in to deception and causing the whole mankind to fall in to sin and rebellion, His curse on the crafty serpent which was more than on any beast on the field, suddenly made its leg to become limp, weak and withered to become useless, and thus it was forced to move on its belly to travel here and there, and also eat the dust of the earth all the days of its life (Gen 3:14-15).

2) GOD JUDGES JUSTLY EVEN THE CRAFTY SERPENT : Because the serpent was very crafty, Satan must have negotiated with it to make use of its body to reach Eve, so that through her, Adam's authority and dominion over the earth could be stolen to be used for himself and his own purpose to be promoted on earth. If the serpent had no choice to choose the evil, then the curse of God that was put on it that made it to become snake which until today exactly exists in the state of curse which God put on it in the Garden of Eden, it is not a just thing to create a beast for getting cursed unless it is given the power and reasoning capability to choose. But we know that God is a just God, so God cannot judge unjustly
(Psa 7:11; 9:8). So the right way God created serpent was with a logical mind to reason out, so by its own choice it had become crafty and thus lost this great ability to communicate with humans.

The Serpent was the highest of all the animals and was the last to be created before Adam. If the Serpent does exist today he certainly would still be able to talk. Some may argue that he was able to talk because he was possessed by Satan just like the demon-possessed man at Gadarenes
(Luk 8:26-33), or just like the ass which God used to speak to Balaam (Num 22:28-30), Satan might have done the same with the Serpent. Just like Balaam's ass speaking was a divine miracle, the serpent speaking can be a diabolic miracle. But note the fact that it was the Serpent who beguiled Eve, and not Satan. So, it was not Satan speaking through the Serpent. And who did God judge — Satan or the Serpent? Both, physically the serpent, and spiritually Satan a great fiery red dragon who was a large spiritual serpent (Rev 12:3, 9), which shows that the responsibility of failing to keep God's commandments and rebel against the authority of God also rested on the natural serpent as well as the spiritual serpent Satan who induced his thought in it through negotiations with it.

3) SERPENT COULD COMMUNICATE : When the serpent spoke to Eve, she was not surprised by it because it must have had the art of communicating with humans as it was more crafty than any other beast of the field. The only difference was, Satan negotiated with the serpent and used its body to test humans to fall in to sin and rebellion
(Gen 3:2). The suggestive ability of Satan was to magnify the opposite negative to its zenith so that the hearers might be negatively affected to not to see the blessings but instead the restrictive boundary which restricts them for obedience. Once there is a small place of doubt regarding the love of God and His goodness, there will be the added words to the word of God which makes it become tainted lies. No matter how good the milk is, when a drop of poison gets added in to it, the whole thing becomes poisonous. When a doubt set in the heart of Eve, her mind because twisted enough to add on and take away certain words of the Lord previously commanded to Adam (Rev 22:18-19).

4) TEACH THE TRUTH WITHOUT COMPROMISE : God becomes misrepresented by the words we believe and the words we speak. When God commanded Adam saying, "16 Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (Gen 2:16-17), it was Adam's responsibility to teach the truth of God to Eve as a commandment or else at least correct the lie when it was heard by him as he was the head of his family and not Even who was under him. Thus when Eve said, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die,’” she has already added to the words of God, that they should not even touch it, when God has told, "in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die," it shows how much of truth we know with in our heart to speak accurately led by our heart will have direct influence on our spiritual ability to overcome temptation. Whenever we add or take away to the word of God, we will be misled by the lies of the evil one. Ignorance is spiritual life is no bliss, but a slippery slope towards destruction.

5) SHOUT WHEN EVIL COMES, DON'T SIN BY YOUR SILENCE : Adam was standing with his wife in the garden watching all the events of the fall of the human race in to sin before his very eyes, but he did not open his mouth nor correct his wife to prevent her from falling in to sin, because he has already given in to the lust to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, this made him become deaf and dumb spiritually. We know for sure that Adam was standing near Eve at the time the serpent tempted Eve because Scripture reveals, first Eve sensed that she could gain power to be like God through eating the forbidden fruit, then, "She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate" (Gen 3:6). The Key word of note is, "her husband [was] with her" while all the temptation happened to Eve which led to the fall of human race.

When good men do nothing, evil triumphs. Evil, sin and sinful acts of any kind must be opposed. God commands those who are good, not just to avoid evil but actively oppose it and expose it as much as possible (Rom 1:32).

Christians are to not only to "have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but (also) reprove and expose them" (Eph. 5:11). Those who do nothing about sin and evil, help the sin and evil to prevail. One who is silent when there are those around him in sin becomes a partaker with them (Eph. 5:7). When Adam stayed silent in spite of seeing Eve face Satan and succumb to temptation, Adam has already sinned by staying silent when it was needed for him to speak against evil. This is the sin of omission which means, when a person knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin (Jam 4:17). Abraham Lincoln rightly said, "To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men."

6) BE IN-DEPENDENCE ON GOD, NOT INDEPENDENT! : The spiritual perception that was working within her according to the Spirit of God, suddenly got cut and her own inner eyes of the soul that worked by physical senses started to function in her, once she lusted after the forbidden fruit which further led her in to sin of disobedience and rebellion. In other words, Eve sinned in her heart before she sinned externally (Rom 6:12). Lust for independency and power made Eve to disobey God, lust for fellowship and friendship with Eve apart from God and His will made Adam to stay silent and sin in his heart, which further made him to be influenced by her to fall in to the same sin by his action.

7) IF YOUR HOLD AUTHORITY, YOU ARE ACCOUNTABLE FIRST EVEN FOR THOSE UNDER YOU WHO BECOME THE WEAK LINK : Until Adam ate it, Eve was still safe under the spiritual covering, divine authority and dominion of Adam which God had given him to protect her. But once he gave in to the temptation, the Scripture reveals, "then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings." (Gen 3:7). If Adam could have spoken the truth at that time to prevent Eve from falling in to temptation, the authority of God within him and upon him would have made Satan to flee away from him forever be under his command like it happened to Jesus when he overcame Satan in the wilderness, after which the authority of Jesus made him fall like lightning [i.e. in which a very high power goes weak and bust in a fraction of time], every time his name was used (Matt 4:1-11; Luke 4:1-13; 10:18). In other words, Christ was under God (1 Cor 15:28), Adam was under Christ, Eve was under Adam and the chain link of divine authority had worked well in the above God appointed order of hierarchy, but failed when Adam failed in his duty to give covering to Eve when Satan tempted her (1 Cor 11:3). The chain is only as strong as its weakest link is true in this case because of rusty and wayward maintenance of the link of structure that God has put in by Adam. Spiritual lethargy is no child game, its repercussion stays on negatively for eternity if not for the help of God to work it for our own good in spite of our failings, weakness and sinfulness.

That is why when God called them and asked what had actually happened, he calls Adam first and then Eve and then Satan, one by one, to know the truth and judge them rightly according to their works (Gen 3:9-14, 15, 16, 17-19).

In short, even though Eve was the one who got deceived and sinned first, yet the in-charge of authority set by God was Adam, He was the one who was first asked by God to give account, then it was Eve's turn to give account to God, but the result of judgment came first to Satan who was not asked any accountability by God because he should have been resisted who had no business to be legally present in the Garden of Eden to tempt them. Then to Eve the judgment came and last of all to Adam. So it is last in, first out in order of God's judgment according to the divine appointed order. Adam lost his authority to Satan who enslaved him through deceit (Rom 6:16). Eve was deceived by the craftiness of the serpent (2 Cor 11:3). Eve cast her spell through her physical intimacy with Adam which made him become spiritually unmasculine to give in to her request rather than stand for the command of God. Thus the Bible insist woman to learn in silence with all submission (1 Tim 2:11; 1 Cor 14:31-36), and permits not to teach or have authority over man as he is the one who is the leader of the home. If a woman obeys God's command in our times, the woman is promised deliverance physically and spiritually in childbearing, if the divine order in the home is maintained (1 Tim 5:14; Tit 2:3-5; Isa 66:7-9). God is concerned about divine order to be maintained, through the gateway God has appointed, He always releases his blessings and protection always any where only through his appointed and anointed heavenly gateways, and not without it or superseding it. God has put the ministers of God as the head over the Church under Him. That is also why God who has entrusted His authority with Adam made him accountable first, even though it was Eve who was the one who sinned first. In other words, God makes the leaders of the Church accountable for the failings of the Church, when they fail to teach and warn them against sin and its evil effect or they were themselves enjoying sins and showing themselves to others around them with a mask (Jam 3:1; 2 Pet 2:13; 2 Tim 3:5-9). God is always just and more merciful in His ways which we can see in all his actions. "From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded." (Luke 12:48). Adam was entrusted with more authority than Eve as a leader of the entire humankind on his shoulder, so more has been required of him (Rom 5:12). Praise the Lord!

Much Blessings....
