What Does It Mean By First Resurrection And Second Death?

How Long Can A Human Really Live?

Question: How long can a human really live? Can someone live for a millennium in the future, is it possible. Why does God have to speak specifically about first resurrection and second death in the Book of Revelation, when we know that the Rapture will be the first resurrection for all the saints of all time. Can there be a symbolic hidden meaning behind the use of words 'first' and 'second'?

Answer: Greetings in Jesus wonderful name!

Let us see from the Bible how long can a human really live?

We know from the timeline of Genesis, the age of the Patriarchs of old described in the Book of Genesis, Adam lived 930 years
(Gen 5:4), Seth lived 912 years (Gen 5:8), Enosh lived 905 years (Gen 5:11), Cainan lived 910 years (Gen 5:14), Mahalalel lived 895 years (Gen 5:17), Jared lived 962 years (Gen 5:20), Enoch lived 365 years and was translated (Gen 5:23), Methuselah lived 969 (Gen 5:27), Lamech lived 777 years (Gen 5:31), Noah lived 950 years (Gen 9:29), Shem lived 600 years (Gen 11:10–11), Arphaxad lived 438 years (Gen 11:12–13), Shelah lived 433 years (Genesis 11:14–15), Eber lived 464 years (Gen 11:16–17), Peleg lived 239 years (Gen 11:18–19), Reu lived 239 years (Gen 11:20–21), Serug lived 230 years (Gen 11:22–23), Nahor lived 148 years (Gen 11:24–25), Terah lived 205 years (Gen 11:32), Abram (Abraham) lived 175 years (Gen 25:7), Isaac lived 180 years (Gen 35:28–29), Jacob (Israel) lived 147 years (Gen 47:28).

Though we see several men of the Patriarch's of old living for several hundred years at once in their earthly life between Adam and Jacob, yet the original intention of God was for humans to live forever and ever. Sin brought disobedience and then introduced death to humans which is separation from the physical body of people that spread to all
(Gen 3:1-3, 16-19; Rom 5:12).

We see that a man's life is 70 years normally or by reason of strength is 80 years, according to the will of God and soon we are cut off to fly away to the blessedness of eternal life of God which He has called us to live in Christ Jesus
(Psa 90:10; John 3:16).

So what is that eternal life?

Eternal life is not just an after life like the earthly one where God in His love, mercy and grace has given and shown to the good as well as the evil person to experience his goodness
(Matt 5:45), though it is God's will for every man to live forever in His goodness and grace (1 Tim 2:3-4). Yet by each man's choice to either accept or reject Jesus Christ (John 3:16), before their physical death they become responsible before God to accept life with God in their after life which is what eternal life is (John 17:3), or live a life without God in their afterlife which is what actually hell is (2 Thess 1:9).

When we know that God desires us to live with Him forever, how long does a human really live to the max?

I believe that all the patriarch's we have seen above lived for several hundred years, and the maximum age a man has ever lived on this planet earth belongs to Methuselah who lived for 969 years
(Gen 5:27). Methuselah’s name means a “man of the spear” and “his death shall bring” which brings the message that the man who lived the longest was cut short by death to bring a judgment upon the wicked world which lived in sin and thought in sin and promoted sin as food and water. Thus Methuselah is the man whose death brought the spear of God's judgment upon humankind. This judgment came upon the whole sinful world of humans, except Noah and his family who were left as a comfort of God to humankind which would have ceased to exist if not for His mercy, grace and love shown to Noah and his family shown during the flood by God (1 Peter 3:20). Hallelujah!

Will God allow a man to live for a thousand years which is a Millennium?

The very fact that God calls the resurrection at the time of Jesus second coming before the Millennial rule of His as the
"first resurrection", and the resurrection of all unbeliever who ever lived on this planet earth as sinners to face "second death" shows the symbolic meaning in the message that God has planned some obedient model believers to live for a thousand years along with Jesus and be changed in a moment of time at the end of the Millennial rule like the living saints of the Church who got raptured before them and settled in the new heaven and new earth to colonize it for His Glory, because of their obedience to God in their lives (1 Cor 15:50-54, 55-58).

The following are the resurrections mentioned in the Bible,

1) The resurrection of many Old Testament saints at the time of Jesus resurrection
(Matt 27:50-54).

2) The Rapture of the Church
(1 Thess 4:14-18).

3) The Rapture of the Two Witnesses
(Rev 11:11-13).

4) The "first resurrection" will be for all the Martyred Tribulation saints along with all those who were ever martyred for their faith from the beginning of time from Abel to that time of the Second Coming of Jesus
(Gen 4:10; Matt 23:34-35; Rev 6:9-11; Rev 20:4-5), these will live with Jesus as special Priests of God and of Christ on the present earth to reign with Him from the earthly Jerusalem until the time of the the second death which is the only resurrection for all the unbelievers which is left forever that will happen after this which is called in the Bible as 'The Great White Throne Judgment' (Rev 20:11-15; 1 Pet 2:5; Num 3:11-13; 8:15-19; Exo 32:27-29; Num 25:7-13).

We know that in spite of the three resurrections that preceded the Second Coming resurrection of the Tribulation saints at the starting of the Millennial rule of Jesus Christ, it is called as the "first resurrection" because it is indeed the first and the last resurrection of the dead saints who have been martyred for Jesus
(Rev 6:9-11), and all the dead saints will sit with Christ as priest in the earthly temple in Jerusalem in their metaphysical glorious body while all living saints of the Millennium in their physical body will live through the Millennium and be caught up and transformed from being physically alive to inherit the metaphysical body of glory in a moment of time at the end of the Millennial rule of Jesus Christ (1 Thess 4:17; Rev 20:7-10).

The one reason I believe God revealed through John the apostle revelator the following verse saying,
"Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years." (Rev 20:6), is because after the first resurrection there will be no death to the living saints in the flesh at all to attain to the resurrection of the righteous any more like before in the previous resurrections of the righteous saints (John 11:24; 5:28-29; Dan 12:2), but rather death would have been overcome forever by the saints who will live physically on earth and many who make their exit through great Tribulation in to the Millennial rule of Jesus Christ will live for a thousand years time to be taken up alive in to the new earth at the end of the Millennial reign of Jesus to meet their peers of the Church age, but sinners will die in before even their hundredth year gets fulfilled which will be considered as baby life span during the Millennial Reign of Jesus (1 Cor 15:55-58).

From what we have learnt from the above anointed exposition reveals that, after the first resurrection there will not be any second death for any believer for a Millennium and forever, because the sting of sin which is death would have already been overcome and imprisoned for a thousand years time
(1 Cor 15:56-57; Heb 2:14-15; Rev 20:1-3), so when at the end of the Millennial reign of Jesus when Satan is let loose to deceive those nations of individual people whose number will be like the sand of the sea in the four corners of the earth who still live to please their own self rather than do the will of God in spite of enjoying the fullness of the goodness of God (Rev 20:8), they will be made to rebel against God openly through the deception of Satan and his minions who will try to kill again those saints living in the present earthly Jerusalem and around the world where they had been serving in the camp of the saints with Jesus as their king for a thousand years time (Rev 20:10; 2 Thess 2:10, 11-12), which will lead all those unbelievers straight in to white throne judgment to face the second death which is being cast in to the lake of fire based on the works of filthy rags that cannot save them for eternity (Rev 20:7-10, 14-15; Isa 64:6). In other words, those who have risen in the new body at the time of Jesus' Second Coming which is the first resurrection of the martyred righteous and the Tribulation saints, because they have risen in their glorious new body, they cannot die the second death of a living or dead sinner again having won over death and sin forever and ever in Christ Jesus for the Glory of God. Glory!

5) As for the righteous who have lived through the Millennium in their natural flesh and blood body and also those who have followed not the way of sinners born within the Millennial rule of Jesus Christ to reach the end of the Millennium, they both will rise up again in a glorious eternal body in the last resurrection after which Jesus will take these saints along with the immortal saints who have already been resurrected in the first resurrection at that time to live forever and ever with God in to eternity
(Rev 20:15; John 11:24; 5:27-29). Because of the "last day" resurrection that happens supernaturally at the end of the Millennial rule of Jesus Christ will only be for those whose names are written in the Book of Life, those whose names are searched for in the Book of Life will be to confirm to the unsaved that they were never saved at all even though they worked using even the name of Jesus for their own ends to be fulfilled but never doing the will of God which is to personally believe in Jesus Christ to get saved from sin (Matt 7:21-23; Mark 9:39; Php 3:18-19; John 6:39-40; Rev 20:14-15). Death and Hades being cast in to the lake of fire is what the Bible calls as second death. In other words, those who carry death of separation from God in their spirit, even though will rise up in a body but will be thrown along with "Death and Hades" in to the lake of fire (Rev 20:12-13; 21:27; John 5:29). Hallelujah!

Thus for the first time in the history of humanity since creation of all humans, by the love, grace and mercies of God, the saints who lived through the Tribulation and have come out alive unscathed to enter the Millennial rule of Jesus Christ in their natural flesh and blood body will live for a thousand years and rule with Jesus Christ in their physical body in this present earth for the Glory of God because of overcoming sin, self and Satan in their lives through the great Tribulation
(Rev 20:4-6).

GLORY TO GOD!

Much Blessings....
