What Is The Day Of The Lord?
Question: What is the day of the Lord? When does it start, will it start right after the Second Coming of Jesus Christ or after the Rapture of the Church?

Generally day of the Lord means, the thousand years that Jesus Christ has promised to come on this earth to rule and reign with an iron rod to bring peace in all the earth. It also does means that the day of judgment for the world, Sin and Satan will take place for those thousand years. All the unsaved will be judged to be sent in to hell fire (Matt 25:46). All sinful actions will be judged on hour to hour and day to day basis (Zech 14:16-19). Satan will be thrown in to prison for a thousand years time and only then will be let loose for a short time so that he could be eternally condemned for his evil work and ways (Rev 20:1-3, 7-10). This is based on the fact that one day is equal to a thousand years to the Lord and nearly six days is getting over since the creation of humans, and therefore the Sabbath day of the Lord in which God will take over the government of the world through Jesus Christ and the Church (Eph 1:21-23; Php 3:20-21), and will voluntarily want human kind to experience rest from the works of their lives. The day of the Lord is when the world government will be upon His shoulders on earth as the time of fruition to experience God's rest will come for all humans and therefore submission of all people to the Divine authority will be implemented by force so that the earth could experience peace for a thousand years time of theocracy (2 Pet 3:8; Rev 20:4-6; Psalm 46:9; Isaiah 2:4; Isaiah 9:6; Ezekiel 39:9–10; Rev 2:27; 19:15).
The apostle Paul clearly revealed about it through Scripture saying, "2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. 11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing." (1 Thess 5:2-11).
We know from the above verses the following truth that we can deduce by reading it:
1) The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, that means people will not realize that a change of political and spiritual power and authority structure has suddenly changed hands where the Kingdom of the World suddenly becomes the Kingdom of God and His saints, without people realizing it on earth. It gives us the clear idea that Satan who is acting as the god of this world now, will be thrown out of the second heavens then, where He is operating from, along with the fallen angels since the time of the fall of man (2 Cor 4:4; Eph 2:2; 6:12; Rev 12:7-12; Luke 4:6). Instead power and authority will be taken over by the Church.
2) Just before the day of the Lord will come, the world will say peace and safety because of the world wide chaos that will come due to God giving Satan the key to the bottomless pit (Rev 9:1; Isa 14:12), through which notorious demons of hate which has been shut after the flood of Noah in the abyss shall once more be loosened again and will come upon the world in to the heart of all the unsaved people to make them hate one another. This satanic onslaught on the soul of unsaved humans will cause great violence and pain and great darkness upon the whole earth except to those who are saved (Rev 9:2-12; Isa 60:1-2, 3).
3) Two things will come due to the day of the Lord coming upon the earth, (i) Sudden destruction upon the world with labor pains as upon a pregnant woman (ii) As we watch in prayer and be sober as believers putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation we will receive the zenith of salvation which is the Rapture of all saints on a particular day, hour and time, and this is the message of comfort to the Church. The unbelievers spiritually sleep and are drunk as people are at night under the influence of Satan like as with alcohol.
4) The destruction that comes upon the world like a labor pain will be the appointed wrath of God upon mankind for their sins.
5) The world will not be able to experience the light of God's revelation and the comfort of the message or the reality of Rapture as they are all in darkness spread by Satan which will be causing blinders over their eyes to continue to keep them in spiritual darkness without salvation (2 Cor 4:4).
We know that though the day of the Lord will start upon the earth and come like a thief in the night, it will be the Rapture that will trigger this sign-less event because the wrath of God upon the world will come only after the Church gets removed from the earth like Lot and his family went out of Sodom and then the judgment fire came upon it to destroy, and like Noah's family went in to the ark after which the rain flood began to increase upon the whole earth to destroy its unsaved inhabitants (Luke 17:26, 29). But the day of the Lord will end only after the thousand year reign of Jesus Christ will make the heaven pass away with a great noise when the elements will melt with fervent heat in which earth and the works of all that is in it will be burned up to become in to gaseous state to be dissolved without trace for eternity ahead because of its sinfulness (2 Pet 3:10, 11).
The Second Coming will be the day in which the Lord with all His saints will come to the earth to establish the already formed new world order and the Kingdom of the Father God to be established on the earth (Matt 25:34; Zech 14:1-21).
As we know that there are two aspect for each prophecy in the Bible, one is spiritual fulfillment and the other is literal fulfillment. God has chosen the Church to bless and multiply it like the stars of heaven spiritually, at the same time, He has chosen the nation of Israel to bless and multiply it like the sand of the sea physically (Gen 13:14-17; 15:5). So the day of the Lord will start for the Church after the Rapture in the heavenlies (1 Thess 5:2), and the day of the Lord will start for the nation of Israel after the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus on earth (Zep 1:14-18). So the Lord will first start to dislodge the wicked spirit rulers and powers in the heavenlies after the Rapture of the Church completely and they will fall to the earth where they will create confusion to shake the earth through the unsaved Kings of the earth who were under them and their influence (Isa 24:21-22; 13:9-11; Rev 12:7-12, 13-17; Eph 6:10-12). Armageddon will bring an end to the desolation of the earth and the reigning of the Lord God Jesus Christ on earth in peace for a thousand years time (Jer 46:10; Zep 3:8; Jer 30:7-8). The Church will continue to reign from the New Heaven and New Earth, to also take care of the present earth from the second heavens for a thousand years time along with Jesus Christ the King of Kings for the Glory of God.
So many of the Prophecies apply for the Church and many other Prophecies apply for the nation of Israel, and still many other Prophecies apply for both the Church spiritually and for Israel physically. So if we do not properly understand and take in the right perspective towards 'the day of the Lord' for the Church and for the nation of Israel separately, then we will easily get confused with the whole message conveyed to us by God about the day of the Lord in the Bible.
