Am I The Only One Struggling As A Christian With Pronography And Masturbation?

I Want To Overcome Decades Of Porn And Masturbation Slavery In My Christian Life, What Should I Do?

Question: Am I the only one struggling as a Christian with Pornography and Masturbation? I want to overcome decades of porn and masturbation slavery in my Christian life, but I have falied again and again and again consistently, what should I do now?

Answer: Greetings in Jesus wonderful name!

I want you to take a challenge from today along with me as we will meditate upon Scriptures and will explain how we can be free from pornography and masturbation and finally pray to the Lord to overcome it for the Glory of God.

Let us start with a word of prayer today.

LET US PRAY: "Dear Heavenly Father, In the name of Jesus we come to your throne of grace to find mercy and grace as you have promised to give me your child in abundance so that I can become a overcomer and inherit your glory for eternity ahead (Heb 4:16; Rev 2;7, 11, 17, 26; 3:5, 12, 21). In Jesus name I pray, thank you and praise you for hearing me, Amen (John 16:23, 26-27; 14:14).

Let me start to tell you that you are not alone, many brethren around the world face the same problem in our generation. Apostle Peter clearly told, "8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary t
he devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen." (1 Peter 5:8-11)

In the above verses we come to understand, that the porn and masturbation problem is not just for you, but it is there for all Christians and even for the best of them who have not been sober and vigilant enough to avoid the trap of the Satanic enemy because of believing the lies that he has probagated through out the world saying that it is not sin and it can be done moderately and no human can live without it. Another big lie of the devil is that, he promotes porn and masturbation saying, that it is the safest way to bring a release and stay safe from actual physical intercourse with the opposite gender and infidelity. But actually the lust which burns more and more in our heart as we enflame it through porn and masturnation will only move us closer and closer to the time of our fall in to physical infidelity both to our spouse and to God who demands holiness of heart from us.

Beliving the truth sets us free from bondage, it has been a long time you have struggled, the Lord wants you to be set free from it (John 8:32, 36). I want to speak about Clive Staples Lewis the great Man of God who was a British writer and lay theologian and the most famous and prolific Christian writer and scholar in modern history, because he shared his internal life struggle with both masturbation and pornography.

In The Book Weight of Glory, Lewis summarized a man’s battle with pornography as wanting to settle for rewards and satisfaction far below what God offers:

“If we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

Lewis admitted to having a struggle with masturbation in his early years, and even confided in a personal letter to a friend:

“Lying on that study sofa…I had sensations which you can imagine. And at once I knew that the Enemy would take advantage of the vague longings and tendernesses to try and make me believe later on that he had the fulfillment that I really wanted. So I balked him by letting the longings go even deeper and turning my mind to the One, the real object of all desire, which (you know my view) is what we are really wanting in all wants… “ Here the One object of all desire is Jesus Christ whom C.S. Lewis is referring to as the Scripture also says it just like that (Hag 2:7). Looking upon Jesus Christ in all His glory and letting the longings go even deeper and turning our mind to the One as our Chief Shepherd who is only able to immensely satisfy can only make us to stay in the zone where we will have no want at all (1 Peter 5:4). Hallelujah!

Do We Realize The Evil Of Masturbation?

In another letter, he suggests that masturbation primarily results from a man’s desire to withdraw into his own selfish world.

“For me the real evil of masturbation would be that it takes an appetite which, in lawful use, leads the individual out of himself to complete (and correct) his own personality in that of another (and finally in children and even grandchildren) and turns it back; sends the man back into the prison of himself, there to keep a harem of imaginary brides.

And this harem, once admitted, works against his ever getting out and really uniting with a real woman.

For the harem is always accessible, always subservient, calls for no sacrifices or adjustments, and can be endowed with erotic and psychological attractions which no woman can rival.

Among those shadowy brides he is always adored, always the perfect lover; no demand is made on his unselfishness, no mortification ever imposed on his vanity.

In the end, they become merely the medium through which he increasingly adores himself…After all, almost the main work of life is to come out of our selves, out of the little dark prison we are all born in. Masturbation is to be avoided as all things are to be avoided which retard this process. The danger is that of coming to love the prison.”

We usually love ourselves (Mark 12:31), and that is the reason Jesus told us to learn to love others as ourselves (Matt 22:39). In other words, being a disciple of Jesus starts with forsaking ourselves and taking up our cross to crucify our selfish desires and instead let the desires of the nature of God to work through our lives (Matt 16:24; Gal 5:24; 2:20; 2 Peter 1:4).

In our generation because of the promotion of lust whereever we turn, and the free availability of porn in our society at our finger tips, there has come a time for the disciples to either stand up against feeding our passions as Christians for something that never satisfies through porn and masturbation, and therefore stand as a real man for Christ to deny it and make it starve to death our passions in order to lose our natural life for the sake of Jesus in order to find and save the life that comes from above (Luke 9:23-26).

As clear as a crystal, apostle Paul spoke to the Church saying, "Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts." (2 Tim 2:22, NLT). In other words there are three things that we should notice to practice to overcome both porn and masturbation in our lives, it is 1) Run from "Youthful lusts and passions", 2) Run to "righteous living, faithfulness, love and peace" and finally 3) Run with "those who call on the Lord with pure hearts." First aspect deals with strong decision to hate and keep our eyes and ears from exposing to lustsful things which is cutting our relationship with the world and the second aspect deals with increasing our relationship with God through meditating His Word and speaking back to Him in prayer through faith, and the third aspect deals with the relationship and fellowship with the people of God to be increased.

God has promised victory through sanctification of our spirit, soul and body till the day of rapture for all those who will trust and believe Him and choose to throw themselves at the mercy of God which has been revealed through the Word of God (1 Thess 5:23-24). If we choose to allow God to set us apart from the world of lies and slavery of sin and death that Satan and his demons propagate to mislead us in to bondage, then easily victory will be ours in Christ Jesus and we will live victoriously for the Glory of God in our lives. There is freedom for everyone who will choose not to love their dark prison of pornography and masturbation. Those who hate porn and masturbation are already out of danger and can surely improve their spiritual health soon enough to stand for Christ and be a blessing to others.

God's Grace Is Sufficient

Lewis admits that he didn’t understand why God does not always change a person’s desires all at once, but he had learned that God’s grace never failed.

“The evidence seems to be that God sometimes works such a complete metamorphosis and sometimes not. We don’t know why: God forbid we should presume it went by merit.

He never in my unmarried days did it for me. He gave me–at least and after many ups and down, the power to resist the temptation so far as the act was concerned. He never stopped the recurrent temptations, nor was I guarded from the sin of mental consent. I don’t mean I wasn’t given sufficient grace. I mean that I sometimes fell into it, grace or no…

The great discovery for me was that the attack does not last forever. It is the devil’s lie that the only escape from the tension is through yielding.”

When apostle Paul prayed and prayed and prayed to God persistently and asked him to shield him from the demonic attack which acted as a thorn in the flesh, God said, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Cor 12:9). Yes a believer who finds porn and masturbation to have enslaved him or her, it is indeed a attack of his being in Christ, against which the attack cannot last forever, instead the realease will come at the right time, if they have yielded to temptation then it will come with wordly sorrow and grief and regret and guilt of having done it all and have wasted something precious, a feeling of which will want us to flee away from God in our unworthiness (Gen 3:10), or else a victorious lively feeling of love and fellowship continuing with God which will bring more joy, more peace and more righteousness in to our lives when we overcome without yielding in to temptation (Jam 1:13-16, 12; 1 Cor 10:13; Rom 14:17; 1 John 1:3-4).

Even if you have failed God a thousand times or even a million times in your life as a Christian, God's grace will never fail you, but it is up to you to use the grace to overcome sin by rejecting the self and the flesh which operates in the sin nature (1 Cor 15:10; 2 Cor 6:1), and instead partake in the nature of God through faith in His promises. God sometimes delivers us instantly from sin and at other times He lets us struggle through it for long so that we might become merciful towards those who struggle like us and bring comfort to help them walk in deliverance (2 Cor 1:20, 3-4; Heb 4:15).

So the key to overcome this habit of pornography and masturbation is through coming to the throne of grace and confessing our sins to God, so that we can be made free from the power of sin to help us walk in His light again by realizing the power of grace which cleanses our conscience through Christ's blood spiritually and again makes us serve our living and loving God (Heb 4:16; 1 John 1:9; Rom 6:14; Heb 9:14).

I speak GRACE, GRACE, GRACE TO THE MOUNTAINS of porn and masturbation YOU ARE FACING and have faced till now in all the decades behind by the Spirit (Zec 4:6-7), and I command it to flee you in Jesus wonderful name (Matt 21:21-22). Amen! We praise you and thank you Lord of all the heavens and the earth for victory in my life!

You Can Find Freedom In Christ Jesus Always!

Accept the truth that you are struggling with sin of pornography and masturbation, don’t buy the lie that it is somehow really healthy for you or harmful for you to avoid. Both extremes are not at all right. In fact, by training your brain to not retreat into fantasy or in many cases pornography followed by masturbation, you are training yourself to be the man you ought to be: someone whose sexuality is truly relational, intimate, and giving, not just a solo experience of that dark prison of self that will retard or delay the process of deliverance and freedom from it.

Science shows us that acting out with pornography taps into our powerful neurochemistry, and this can quickly lead a person to use porn habitually. Much like a drug, the chemicals that fire when watching porn cause the brain to increasingly crave it until eventually it can feel almost impossible to break free.

The more frequently men view pornography and then masturbate, the more they are likely to say they are less satisfied with sex and relationships. This is a universal fact that researchers have come to accept scientifically. So there can be no virtue or improving sexual performance and intensity through watching pornography, infact it has the power to break our life and family to lead us in to darkness and prison life. The habit of pornography and masturbation makes the persons who view it on sceen to forget the fact that they are not “imaginary”; but rather they are images of God exploited for the purpose of profit on the side of the makers and again re-exploited for their own selfish end on the side of the viewers. Mostly those used to masturbation and pornography tend to isolate themselves as they are seeking their own desire to be fulfilled instead of God's desire for them to raise a family to love as He had love them unconditionally for the Glory of God (Prov 18:1). For those that are married, this “harem of imaginary brides” demeans and degrades the spouse who in a weird twist of emotions, start to feel unworthy to sleep with her man, because of the reason that she has not been unable to look like those women on the screen and are not able to perform like them, thus totally causing the disintegration of the oneness of the spouse with himself that God had gifted in reality to be a family through marriage for His Glory (Gen 2:24-25; Eph 5:28). For those that are single as well as the married who are caught in this deception and lies of a better life in pornography and masturbation, this “harem of imaginary brides” diminishes the capacity for deep friendship and therefore will cause harms to our ability to strengthen the ties of friendship leave alone intimacy within marriage.

So it is never too late to turn to Christ and His way of practicing purity with the people of God through denying the flesh and taking up our cross of fulfilling the will of God for our lives. It is high time to take out that one foot we kept in the world and the other within the Kingdom of God, which we thought will be ok to God and ok to our spirituality too. But infact, the truth stands that the one who makes friendship with the world makes himself an enemy of God, so we should take now a strong stand not to love the world and its passing away lust that operates within us (1 John 2:15-17; Jam 4:4). We cannot walk hand in hand with Jesus and have the other hand with Satan, so love not the world and period. Pornography and Masturbation are the part of the world which operates by the lust of the flesh and lust of the eyes, and it is not the will of God and therefore should be dealt with iron hand without a doubt to throw these abominations out of our life and family, so that we can truly be blessed by God in every area of our lives (Matt 5:27-30, 31-32; Gen 24:1). The great cause of divorces in family life is caused by lust of pornography and masturbation, and that is why Jesus spoke about spiritual adultery in the heart and then immediately spoke about the subject of divorce for any cause other than immorality done physically as adultery before God.

May we learn to hate that which God hates and choose to love that which God loves, God hates sin but loves the sinners like us. So let us love those who have faltered in this area of their life, and let us repent if we have been involved in such areas that are abominable to God and take it seriously enough to flush it out of our system completely and remain blessed in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. Amen!

LET US FINISH WITH A WORD OF PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you again in the name of Jesus my Lord and Savior, now I clearly understand how pornography and masturbation is totally against your will for my life. I ask pardon and confess to you that I have sinned against you and heaven. But I thank you that you have faithfully forgiven my transgression through my Lord Jesus Christ, and now I ask you to help me overcome the lust which you hate and that which belong to the world which is your enemy. Help me love your word and consistently pray to you to find mercy and grace in time of need and thus overcome the temptations that I will face from now on in my daily life. Help me be accountable to you and to people around me and take all the lies of the enemy out of my mind, let me grow in the mind of Christ which is loving, powerful and sound enough to guide me from within in to a prosperous and blessed life through the Holy Spirit. From now on let me reject the passions and feelings that come from within to enslave me and let me look to your promises with faith in my heart to experience the overcoming power that you have for me to live a victorious life. Amen! Thank you Jesus!

Much Blessings....
