Question: No body looked forward to the cross of Christ for salvation. Not even the 12 Apostles of Christ. They didn't understand it (Mark 9:31-32). Even though Jesus our Lord came to fulfill the Old Testament Scriptures, Salvation through the cross of Christ to all people wasn't the topic in the Old Testament. If the law of Moses cannot bring salvation, can you explain the below Scriptures?
Matthew 19:17-19 KJVS, "And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. [18] He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, [19] Honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."
Answer: Greetings to you in Jesus wonderful name!
Jesus himself confirmed that he was not doing anything new, but rather was only fulfilling Scriptures .... which Scripture? All that was believed and written by the prophets of OT regarding the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Luke 24:25-27). So it was all veiled in Moses (2 Cor 3:14-16). But Jesus has revealed Himself through the OT Scripture for 2000 years as our Creator God as He is our Messiah (Matt 16:16; Heb 1:1-3; Luke 1:77). Praise the LORD!
The law of Moses was only a shadow of the good things of the grace of the Lord Jesus to come, and it is not the very image of the things to keep it to inherit salvation (Heb 10:1). The law of Moses cannot bring salvation but can only make our sin dreadful, but the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ brings salvation to our souls (Rom 7:13).
When one rich young man asked Jesus by calling him 'Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?' (Luke 18:18-30). In other words Jesus replied back so accurately saying, "I am not just a Good Teacher, but beyond that you either call and know me as God to be saved by grace or keep the commandments truly to understand that you cannot save yourself through just keeping it." (Matt 19:17-19 Paraphrased; John 6:28-29; 8:24; Rom 7:13; Gal 3:21, 23-24). If this rich young man had really kept the commandments from his heart and not just religiously, he would have come to Jesus seeking his mercy and grace to fall at His feet having understood that He was God in the flesh who had come to save sinners like him. At that moment of time, he would have received his salvation which is eternal life as a gift of God in a moment of time (Rom 6:23; 2 Cor 6:1-2). The very fact, that he turned away from Jesus very sorrowfully was because he was a religious man full of covetousness for inheriting more money and wealth that had been his true god. In other words, he did not want to let go off his covetousness and religious pride, so that his false god of mammon may be thrown away from his heart for the Lord Jesus to come in to him in order to become his Lord and Savior (Matt 6:24; 7:21-23).This man thought Jesus would give some religious advice to tell him to invest more and more in to tithes and offerings like the modern preacher who say, 'Invest in to my ministry and you get in to heaven', so that being a rich man he could make a big show off before people as usual, but Jesus gave him the real answer because He is the real God who had created him for His Own Glory! Hallelujah!
The whole Bible speaks about the Jesus as God in the flesh who had come to save sinners like us without doubt. Believing Jesus any other way, has no effect upon our soul to save us from sin and give us heaven hereafter. If we have eyes to see, then we must understand Jesus as God who has become human, the one and only God's begotten Son who had come to save us from all our sins or else we will perish in sin without true faith in Christ Jesus that can only save our souls (Rev 22:10-11; 3:22; 1 Cor 15:1-4, 11, 14, 17-18). Praise the Lord! Hallelujah!
Much Blessings....
