Question: Why does Acts 9:7 say that those traveling with Paul heard a voice, but Acts 22:9 says that they heard no voice?
Greetings in the mighty name of Jesus!
Here are the Scriptures you discussed, Acts 9:7 says, "And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but seeing no one." Later when Paul testified and recounted of this experience in Acts 22:9 he said, "And those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they did not hear the voice of Him who spoke to me."
Is it a contradiction within the Scripture, by no means it is. Because the first time God spoke specifically to Paul, Luke understood that the message was a direct one to Paul, who conversed with the Lord Jesus. But during the conversation between God and Paul, Paul lost his physical vision because of the supernatural spiritual vision that he encountered and saw. These men need to understand what experience Paul saw and as a result lost his sight, so in a limited way like sonic boom or something like that was caused by God to make those people who came with him to realize of that supernatural experience in their lives personally.
So did these men who journeyed with Paul heard a sound? Yes but it was not the personal conversation that had taken place between God and Saul. That is why after Saul was blinded, "they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus", where Jesus instructed him to go (Acts 9:8). If they had not personally experienced the supernatural vision, they would not have believed Saul to lead him in to Damascus where Jesus instructed him to go. Praise the Lord!
In Acts 22:9, Luke the writer there reveals the exact thing we were discussing earlier, that those who accompanied Saul officially experienced the light or the sound of the sonic boom that God released to make them understand the holy vision he has given to Saul. Lo and behold, they experienced it personally and were afraid of God's presence and activity of something supernatural that had happened to Saul. But the personal conversation that had taken place between God and Saul was encrypted by God in that vision, that those who were with him did not hear it but only came to believe what Saul said to them.
Thus hearing what Saul said, they helped blind Saul to go to Damascus where Jesus instructed him to go in the vision.
Glory to God!
Much Blessings....
