Do We Hear The Voice Of God With Our Physical Ears Or Spiritual Ears Now?

Does God Still Speak To Our Physical Ears Or Does He Speak Directly To Our Spiritual Ears Only?

Question: Can we hear God’s voice physically in our lives today? Or is it a spiritual voice in our heart, through His Word primarily and then through dreams and visions occasionally as a sheep we come to know the voice of our chief Shepherd Jesus Christ?

Answer: Greetings! Praise the Lord!

The Israelites trembled when God began to speak and told to Moses to hear what God says and then tell them to do it (Exo 20:18-21). Thus 10 commandments of God was provided for the people of Israel to follow, which must be understood as the voice of God to the nation of Israel, and through them to the whole humanity (Luke 16:29; Deut 30:14, 15-16). But still they desired that the Messiah as God might come to them, to rise from the dead and speak to their hearts spiritually and personally to rule their lives as it was prophesied by Moses and all the prophets of the Old Testament (Luke 16:30-31; Deut 18:15-22). What happened to the Israelites were, because of stiff-necked and stubborn-heartedness, some of them who realized that they were sinners in need of salvation repented and believed the baptism of John as well as the words of Jesus the Christ, but most of them did not repent but chose to reject the direct voice of the Lord God the Messiah who was like Moses sent to the nation of Israel to establish a New Covenant with God (Exo 33:1-6; John 4:22; Matt 15:24; 12:38-42; Luke 7:29-35).

Thus from that time onward when the nation of Israel rejected Him and did not take the voice of the counsel of God, Jesus turned towards the Gentiles and the good news was commanded to be spread in all the whole wide world, so that those who accept the virgin birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, might be saved for eternity ahead (Mark 16:15-16).

As a believer, we all hear the voice of God not physically, but spiritually within our heart through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior (Heb 4:7). Hallelujah! So JESUS from the New Jerusalem (i.e. Mount Zion) which is our headquarters, as our GOD SPEAKS TODAY IN OUR HEARTS spiritually (Heb 12:22)!

So God himself said that the first time He spoke to people physically, all trembled at the holiness of God and therefore they did not want to hear His voice as the whole earth shook when He spoke (Heb 12:26). So this time through Jesus, as a still small voice he has stooped low to speak within our hearts (Heb 12:25; Matt 11:28-30; 1 Kings 19:12). But this time all who reject his voice will see God as a consuming fire in hell and no other way God could any more speak to them there. As their fate will be sealed forever in hell without God after their physical death, because they do not want to hear the voice of God their Creator or obey Him in their lives. So God wants all people to repent and turn towards Him before their physical death, so that they could HEAR HIS VOICE IN THEIR NEW reborn SPIRIT to avoid the fires of God's eternal judgment, where the soul will suffer the hell fire that does not quench and where the worms does not die (Mark 9:43-44). Hallelujah!

So you may ask me, whether any humans could still physically hear the voice of God? My answer will be yes and a no, yes because that too will be a vision, dream and likewise all spiritual things and not a physical voice (Acts 26:14; 22:9, 14-15, 17; 9:3-4). But it may seem to us like we have heard the sound of His voice physically, but that too is a spiritual experience and encounter that God gives certain people who are in certain situations to turn them towards Him closer and closer through Jesus Christ! A no, I say to hearing God's voice physically, because if God really speaks, the earth will tremble and shake and humans too will tremble, let alone hear him speak so that they could obey (Psa 104:32; Heb 12:26).

God's word in our hand is the primary way God speaks in our spirit through Jesus Christ quickening it to all our needs in all situations through His Spirit if we keep believing it (Matt 4:4; Ps 119:105; John 15:7; 17:16-17; Php 4:23; 2 Cor:13-14). His word works in all the lives of those who believe it in their heart and patiently wait for its fulfillment (1 Thess 2:13).

In the secondary way, God's voice can be heard through dreams, visions, prophesy, situations and the like (Matt 2:12; Acts 2:17-18, 21). We as the Church are blessed with all spiritual things in the heavenly places, this is our inheritance in Christ Jesus (Eph 1:3). "He who has ears, let him hear," Jesus said and also the Holy Spirit says to the churches, which means once Jesus Christ makes us a new creature in Him when we first believed in Him (2 Cor 5:17), our inner spiritual ears get opened to hear the direct voice of God in our spirit (Matt 11:15; Rev 2:29). Hallelujah!

So whether we hear the voice of God within our spirit or through other means as we have seen and discussed above, everything will be a spiritual voice of God (Heb 4:7). God can choose to open our physical ears to make us hear His voice in a limited way by limiting His glory, but very rarely this happens because God wants to honor His Word above all other means and methods (Psa 138:2). To tell specifically, only one time He directly spoke physically to his people from the mountain (Heb 12:25-29). But in these last of the last days, God has spoken in his word, that He will once again through His physical voice will not only shake the earth but also the heavens so that those spiritual and metaphysical eternal things of the new creation may continue to remain, and thus the physical and temporal might pass away in to oblivion. Glory to God!

Thanks and Much Blessings....
